That looks pretty good. That'll kill elk probably as far as you are comfortable shooting them. I wouldn't do much more than verify the accuracy, and practice, practice, practice. Especially practice from field positions if your range allows it.
I would think it would stiffen it some. I guess it kinda depends on how flexible it was to start with. I have a Remington that could certainly use it, but my synthetic plastic Tikka stock hardly moves so I wouldn't bother with that one.
How much weight did it add to the stock TD? Will be...
My co-worker has a 303 similar to the ones posted here. But he is having feeding issues with it. He's tried new magazines, but the problem persists. I haven't had a chance to look at it myself. Any common or simple fixes you guys know about with these old Enfields?
Roegun,
It's hard to go wrong with IMR 4350 and 165 gr partion. I have a very mild but very accurate imr 4350 165 gr load using military match brass and Sierra GK hpbt bullets. It's probably moving at 308 speeds, but its accuracy is confidence inspiring and it works well. Whatever load you...
One of my magazines just had an article on the 6 mm Creedmoor. Hornady is now loading for it. 100-200 fps faster than a 243. As I have a 243 and don't compete,. I'll pass on the 6, but I really would like to try the 6.5 Creedmoor.
If your load was worked up with Winchester brass, you may want to do a quick load work up with the Nosler brass, just to confirm changing brass doesn't change accuracy. I've not used much Nosler brass, but the factory seconds brass I have used was good brass and easy to work with.
I used my Caldwell chronograph for the first time today and know exactly what you mean. One of my set 150 gr 30-06 loads was clocking right at or under 2800 fps, which was about 100-150 less than I expected, as it's not a max load. I won't change the load though as it consistently shoots right...
C.Smith, it looks like the recoil stud on the bottom of the front ring has bent from recoil. What kind of scope where you using? I guess it couldn't have been too big or you would've needed taller rings. Will have to keep an eye on mine. I have a 4-12 x40 Redfield on mine, pretty standard...
Nice job on the stock. It looks just like my Bell and Carlson stock. Let us know how it shoots. The trigger on mine is the old style Model 70 trigger and is adjustable, though I had to order a lighter spring. Hopefully yours is too. Mine is better now with the lighter spring, but I can...
Glad you figured it out. After all that frustration and expense, I would be on the phone with the ring company wanting a free set of rings at the very least. How is the Nosler shooting now? We like gun and target pics around here.
Thanks for the info on the Tikka rings guys. I think for my 30-06, they will be just fine. They mounted up easily and gave me the room I needed to mount the scope correctly. Hopefully, I can try it out this weekend or next.
