In my Vanguard Deluxe, those bullets do really well with 66.2 gr of 7828. I haven't chrony'd them, will do that this winter. The best I've done was a crack over .5" at 100 yards off a rest, three shot group, cooler weather seems to help the third shot. Can't get the 150 E-tips to work for...
Recently bought a mid 90's 700 in .25-06. I have 100 and 115 NBT's to start, I'll probably use IMR 4831. I just tried to chamber some rounds my Ruger M77 likes that are near the lands and they were pretty tight in the 700.
Where would you start for OAL and/or comparator length for those two...
I can't recall who, but someone told me it did better in .25-06 with 100 gr bullets and up. Seems to be the case for me so far. The 7 mm Rem mag loves the stuff with 140 Etips and 150 NBTs, excellent accuracy.
That bullet is what my Vanguard likes better than any other bullet over 100 gr. I run it with 52 gr of IMR 4831, not a hot load, but it will put the cold barrel shot right there every time if I do my part.
It does ok with 55 gr of 7828, too, but that first load will repeat that cold barrel shot...
Thanks for the ideas. As good as the 140 shoots it sure seems like the 150 ought to do well. I'll keep after it. I see the little slip of paper in the box of bullets says to try them way off the lands, as Fotis says, but the 140 load that works for me is kinda close, best as I can tell.

I have a load for a 140 E-tip with 7828 that does pretty well if I do my part. A friend is all hot to use 150 E-tips for his out west hunting. I've tried them in my rifle, a plain jane Vanguard, and can't get them to do anything decent, say an inch at 100 yards. The 140's have done .7" and...
There's one in Columbia, SC, great place to shop, decent prices as I recall, and lots of goodies to look at. I do wish they'd seal the boxes of bullets somehow, but I guess that would be a PITA.
I've had excellent luck with them in the 7 mm Rem mag, and dismal in the .25-06's. Using 7828 in the 7 mag, and about .010 less jump than the 150 NBT. I tried the instructions in the box without success, too. I'll start running them closer in the .25's and see. Death on a pig at close range in...
Got a bit of an answer today at the range, the warmer 100 gr loads did shoot well. Didn't have the chrony with me, trying to make myself get one with a remote. The warmer loads did the best with the same OAL as the mild ones. It did seem to make a bit of a difference using Federal primers...
First, thanks to you all who post about this caliber, I've learned alot on here.
Working up loads, when I find something that shoots well in the middle of the recommended powder weight range, and I want to run it faster, should I stay with the same OAL for a given bullet as I try to push it...
Along the same lines, I have a load for my 7 mm mag with 140 gr Etips that's working pretty well. If I go to 150 gr Etips would I use the same length OAL to give me the same comparator length ?
Thanks, guys, just finished rigging up a base for it, used some oak I've had for, oh, 35 years.
Sheesh, that's pitiful. I'll make a nicer one by and by.
Just got a Wilson case trimmer, wondering what folks use for length. I had been trimming to 2.485 with a Lee rig. I can see the Wilson will get the ends of the cases true square. I'm shooting a No.1 and a Vanguard. Thanks for the help - Steve
Thanks for the help. Interesting about the forearm, this one's forearm is a very tight fit. To mount it, I have to have the butt on the floor and press down hard for the screw to get aligned. Might need to relieve it at the rear end ? I have a friend who's very good with that sort of thing.
As...
I have a No. 1 that I can't seem to get as consistent as I think it ought to be. It has a Douglas barrel, with a 1x10 twist. I size the brass to 2.485" with a Lee cutter and battery drill. I'm hoping to get a Wilson case trimmer, been looking around. I'm wondering if I've shot this batch of...
I'm not running anything hi speed, just shooting for fun. I use 2400, 16 to 17 gr, and AA#5, 10.8 to 12 gr. I seem to have the best luck with the old Rem 210 JSP. The Model 57's love those. Also had good luck with Oregon Trail cast 215's. Haven't tried the Lil Gun yet but keep hearing good...
Read this last night but wasn't thinking correctly. Do a search on the smith-wessonforum.com site for .41 mag, or cruise the reloading section. Lots of fellow .41 addicts there, lots of very good information. Lots of folks like H110. In my 57's the 210 Rem JSP does well over AA #5 and 2400...
Hello Guy, I was guessing you'd show up, and yes, I have your information right here next to me. When I got this No. 1 the owner sent all his log books, pretty detailed record of his shooting with this rifle, kept in two U.S. Dept of Justice/ FBI Data books. Every target is enclosed, loads...
