Recently bought a mid 90's 700 in .25-06. I have 100 and 115 NBT's to start, I'll probably use IMR 4831. I just tried to chamber some rounds my Ruger M77 likes that are near the lands and they were pretty tight in the 700.

Where would you start for OAL and/or comparator length for those two bullets ?

Thanks,
Steve

I normally start with the length stated in the reloading manual. Gotta start somewhere and further down the line you might get a better idea of what your rifle likes.

I have found that those bullets usually shoot pretty well between 20 and 10 thousands off the lands in all the 25-06s I have loaded for. I start out at 10 thousands off the lands and find my powder accuracy load and move the seating depth back to 15 and 20 thousands to see if it tightens up.

I have a Rem 700 Classic 25-06, manufactured in 1990. I've found over the years, it prefers shorter oal's. The sweet spot with most bullets is always 3.20 oal or less.

Thanks very much, I hope to get started on this one shortly. Sure appreciate the starting OALs.
Steve
