Me too. I have several .30-06’s too and frankly have a tough time justifying anything larger for where I hunt.
That could change if they reintroduce grizzlies, but even so, I would not feel under gunned with a .30-06 and appropriate bullets.
Besides my rimfires which see lots of use, I could...
An interesting topic, I will bite. My gaps are as follows:
.244 - I just happen to like .224’s better for varmints and .257’s better for game
.264 - Would love a 6.5 Swede, have access to a .264 Win Mag
.277 - Gave my last .270 to a nephew for Christmas, may get another someday
.323 - Loved my...
Besides the pros/cons others have mentioned, I add the following:
.35 Whelen (which I own)
Easier to get or form brass (stateside)
Better selection of bullets (stateside)
More rifles in circulation (stateside)
Easily fits in any ‘06 length action
9.3x62mm
Gaining ground in popularity...
Of all of the Creedmoor cartridges, I must say the .22 and .25 intrigue me the most.
I see that a new 128 grain ELDX is being produced by Hornady for the new .25 Creedmoor and has a G-1 Bc of .633, my question is, does anyone think I have a prayer of getting that bullet to stabilize in a...
Good luck sitting on your hands. I simply don’t have the fortitude.
I have owned several Ruger M77 rifles but the only Hawkeye of the bunch is my current .22-250 and it shoots great.
For $500, I don’t think you could go wrong.
I have leverguns from Winchester, Marlin and Savage and I like and appreciate them all. Each design is slightly different for sure.
The Winchester 1892 .25-20 WCF and the Marlin 39A .22 LR far and away see the most use. But all of them are super fun to shoot. I guess I will have to say that I...
I’ve been taking pictures of guns and game etc. for years. I would say a goodly portion of the pictures on my phone and computer are guns and dead stuff.
Rifles…continued
My Remington 700 .25-06 is also a front runner. Like Guy Miner, I have had tremendous luck with mine, even taking a couple of elk with it. It too prefers the 110-120 grain bullet weights. Since taking the pictures below I put it into a lighter weight Bell and Carlson stock...
Handguns -
I really love my High Standard SK-100 Sport King 6” .22 LR. I had a second one with a 4” barrel but I sent it down the road as it didn’t shoot as well as the 6” barrel. I bought this gun the same year as Old Reliable at a yard sale. It has been a constant companion.
My Ruger Bisley...
These are amazing ideas for threads! Very conversation-starting!
Lets see -
I’m pretty plain jain when it comes to guns. No one wants to hear their pet musket insulted but most of today’s popular guns have as much appeal to me as a handyman jack. I hear “its just a tool, it doesn’t need to...
I have four .22 rifles and 2 .22 handguns.
Three .30-06 rifles, all Model 70’s.
Three .357 Magnums, two are handguns and one is a carbine.
Although I only have one .25-06, I plan to add one or two more for the kids. Another .22-250 and/or .220 Swift will likely join the fold too.
Yeah I think my chainsaw and I are going to go pay that branch a visit this afternoon. This probably needed stitches too but just going to deal with it. Sure is tender.
So while working on the ranch today, I found couple of brown elk sheds which was nice.
I was fixing fence and went to drive my 4-wheeler under a tree branch which happened to snap off and tattoo a lightning bolt on my right bicep. I was pleased. 🤦♂️🤬
On the way back I saw two snakes (neither...
I forgot to mention that my .25-20 is also the oldest gun I own, SN 38XX. Its a model 1892, made in 1892. Something that is 133 years old (although I don’t believe the barrel is the original) and still shoots nickel groups at 50 yards with open sights deserves mad respect.
I had two T/C Contenders years ago. One was a .223/.44 Mag combo. The other was a .30-30. They were very fun and scary accurate. But my interests changed and I sent them down the road.
Honestly I would love to have a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in .25-20 WCF to go with my 1892 Winchester. That...
