You can't go wrong with either. Do you a need a premium bullet for deer? No, but that little bit extra insurance always feels good and the extra price you pay is a fraction of what you spend on other hunting equipment. I've never used 180gr bullets out of my 30-06 but I mostly hunt whitetails...
That looks amazing! How exactly did you cook the loin?
A place I used to hunt had quite the hogs population. We ate them all, ranging in size from 40 lbs to 225 lbs, including big boars and quite frankly they all tasted the same. Absolutely delicious.
The 257 Roberts is one of my absolute favorites! I shot my first deer and hogs with a Rem 700 Classic in that caliber and still have the rifle. My dad loaded 100gr BT's for me back then. I also bought a 15" Encore pistol barrel in 257 Roberts and have killed deer with it using the 110gr Accubond...
I scoured the internet & now have plenty of 270 & 7mm Interbonds but can't find the 30 cal ones. I've been using Accubonds as their replacement. Ive also used Swift Sciroccos & Speer Impacts and have been happy so far with what little I've used them.
Sucks to hear about your issues and so many others with Leopold problems. I have more scopes of theirs than any other and I've never had an issue. I recently just bought a Zeiss V4, my first Zeiss. Looking forward to shooting with it.
Mind you it's been a while, but I've had good phone conversations with Lyman, RCBS and Hornady over the years. I've also got some quick email replies from Hornady and Berger.
3186 is smoking, I'd definitely back that down. I've noticed VV's load data is on the more cautious side. Different lot numbers, different component combos, test barrel vs a factory gun, how chambers were cut and a host of other variances can change load data quite a bit.
I was loading some 7mm PRC with Staball HD and Federal 215's and noticed the purple coating on the inside of the primers. The coating is extremely inconsistent and I have never noticed this in other primers. They seem to shoot just fine and go bang everytime. I didn't know if this inconsistent...
I emailed Hornady about a month ago and they confirmed they're out of production and have no current plans to bring them back. The rep said they're expensive and slow to make compared to their other projectiles. That's a shame, which is why I've been buying all I can when I see them.
This is a recovered 130gr Hornady Interbond shot from a custom Rem 700 with a 24" Krieger barrel at about 50 yards. Way too much gun for the area I was hunting, but I had not shot anything with this rifle since I got it back from the gunsmith. I was hunting in October, which is prime time for my...
Sweet gun Guy. I have the non Bisley version that had a little work done to it by SSK. Great guns!
So far I've really like the XTP's in my 44 Mag & 454 for deer. I have no doubt they'd smack a black bear pretty good too.
I've used the 240 gr XTP out of a 7.5" barreled 44 Mag revolver on deer & into the jugs close to 1400 fps muzzle velocity. They did great on both. It exited on a doe & dropped her. I don't remember how many jugs, but it was a picture perfect mushroom with very high weight retention. Looked close...
Nice! I have a bunch of the 154gr 7mm's I want to try in my 7 Rem Mag & PRC. I've only killed deer with the 130gr 270 & 150gr 30 cal. Shot a nice doe with the 150gr out of the 30-06 and it worked great. Buddy got his first deer with the same combo. Great blood trails and always seemed to exit...
Looking forward to seeing these again! I have several Encore pistol barrels and one rifle barrel. They're all shooters! Pic attached was a doe shot at 130 yards with 257 Roberts and 110gr Accubond.
