I shot a fat doe with one two years ago. Shot her behind the last rib on the left and it exited thru the front of the right front shoulder. I was surprised when she ran 60+ yards and I had to track her. She left plenty of blood to track. I thought they might be too tough for thin skinned game...
I am working on a lower velocity load for my girlfriend to shoot in a 270 WSM. I shot one of the lowest charge weights into the jugs today and caught it inside the fifth jug. The velocity is right at 2700 and it weighed 93.6 after. 66.9% weight retention. Boringly beautiful as all accubonds...
My 2506 Ackley pushes the 100 grain scirocco at a little over 3400 out of a 28" Shilen barrel. I found this one in the bottom of the fifth jug. It was shot at approx. 20 yards. It weighed 73.3 grains and retained 73.3% of its original weight. Brutal test and it held up well.
This is the load I hunted with last year. It seems to work well for whitetails. I would lean towards a more solid bullet if I was hunting larger game like Elk.
2650 fps, shot at approx. 20 yards. Fully penetrated 4 jugs and dented the fifth. Weighed 139.3 after. 69.7% retained weight.
I...
Quickload predicted this loads velocity at 2850fps. I shot the jugs at about 20 yards. It fully penetrated 5 jugs and poked a hole in the 6th and was found on the table. It weighed 220 before and 148.5 grains after. Trevor, it looks just like yours but a jug less penetration. 67.5% weight...
Here is one last picture. It is the .277 BSB from the jugs next to a .257 and .284 Accubond both pulled from large hogs..
I don't see how looking like an accubond could be a bad thing!
I purchased a new 270 WSM for my girlfriend. In an effort to keep the recoil low, I picked up some 90 grain BSB's made for the 6.8mm. I had a few 90 grain sierra HP's laying around from shooting prairie dogs back in the late 80's.
I bought 20 pieces of new Norma brass and loaded 10 with the...
I had a similar problem several years back, brought on by the same scenario. I pierced a primer one evening. The following afternoon I tried to shoot a coyote and had a misfire. I figured bad primer. then as dark approached, the remaining two rounds in my gun also failed to discharge on a fat...
Two different people ran QL for me on a Tikka 7Mag that I have and it was never close. I always complained that it was slow as I never saw the velocities that the manuals or QL predicted. During a phone conversation with Scotty, he talked me into measuring my case capacity. We found that MY...
I've recovered a handful of SST's, but they have always come "unglued".. they have never looked great like that one. I do use the 139's instead of the 162's.
I bought the 139's for the 7RM, but have decided they are better suited for my daughters 7-08. I have found them to be catastrophic on...
Scotty, Its hard to find a test subject that can hold on to the bonded .257's.. Takes a pretty good sized pig and a front shoulder bone or two usually.. One of the accubonds was donated by a coyote who didn't want it anymore. Stem to stern and cross body. shot in right front shoulder, recovered...
Here are a couple of the recovered bullets I have.
100grain scirroccoII and a pair of 110 Accubonds.
The scirrocco is somewhat deceiving. While the AB's look better, the scirrocco actually retained more % of weight.
One accubond was 65 and one 68 grains.
the scirrocco was 66.
