My 06 is a Ruger 77, the first year they were produced. Owned a bunch over the years. I would bet if all the guides in Alaska lined their rifles up on the wall, by a significant number Ruger 77 would be the most used.
Blueberry are usually larger and more abundant where they grow. In Alaska we had blue berry all over in the Tundra this time of year. Scoop them up by the handful while hiking. Bears like them too. Huckleberry is labor intensive, harder to pick and find than blueberry.
My 275 Rigby has been doing very well with 140s. I have some 150s and 160s on hand and will work with them. I may end up taking her to Africa next May. Seeing what you did with the 708 is pushing the 275 up a little that is for sure.
So this morning the girls decided to take me picking huckleberry up at 7000 feet. We had a great time, put up some grouse, both blues and ruffed. On the way down Catherine decided we should go pick some peaches. The huckleberry patch is 10 miles east of us. The peaches about the same distance...
She has always wanted to hunt with her dad. I remember her at about 7 years old coming out to the duck pond in the winter, started hunting when she was 12. She is not your average Division 1 cheer leader.
Pretty sure she holland “Go Beavs” when her bull was down.
Friday last, we had had very warm overnight temps. When I got to the top of the unit it was 30 degrees. 7500 ft. I was standing outside my truck watching the sun come up and I also heard cows down below me. Been crazy warm since then. Our house is at 3000 feet and it was 60 when I took off with...
I’ve decided to hang the 338 Jarrett up this year. I’ll be toting the Ruger #1 300 HH loaded with 180 Accubonds at 3100 and a little change.
For deer I’ll be shooting the Ruger #1 is 275 Rigby with 140 Ballistic tips at a little over 2900.
Short on details yet, my sister sent me the pic with none of the requisite info. Taken on the family farm with a depredation tag. This is a Roosevelt elk.
Nice 3x4 mule deer out of the same general area Dale was likely hunting. Big wide open country lots of mule deer then. Fall of 1967, I was 12. 03/A3 Springfield we had recently purchased from the Army Navy store. Damn thing was pretty heavy for a 12 year old.
I remember watching that buck come...
There are a lot of cats in the northwest, populations have exploded in the decades since they outlawed hunting with hounds. I’ve seen very few but know from talking to the ODFW bio there are 14 collared cats within a few miles of where I walk my dogs almost every day.
Your’s was a very...
Getting a late start. Cat said she wanted to go, still waiting😁. Get out to the truck, had left the tailgate down apparently
Guess I'm going for a hike with the girls, perhaps we'll pick huckleberry. Better go get some buckets!
I use 4064 with 150s in my 06, I’d have to go wake the dogs and look for that load book but I think 52.5 grains. Started shooting the ballistic tips out of it for longer shots on mule deer. That was about 40 years before range finders came out. The ballistic tips at just over 2950 flattened the...
I found one 33 Nosler at Guns international. It is however a mdl 48, not a bad choice. As to your claim, I would say you’re off to a great start so would all the gun cranks on this forum. Now, if you send him to Africa for his birthday next year you’ll be in rarified air for sure. Good luck and...
Appears to me you are dangerously short of a 375HH. The 7mag is a great cartridge out west. Couldn’t accurately tell you how many elk the ones in our camp have taken in the last 50 years, but it’s nearer 100 than none, I know that. 300s are still better if you’re hunting elk because sometimes...
