Pulling this out of the back of the safe. Had plans for an African trip, but never came together. Set up the rifle, fired a few rounds. Still have a full box of ammo left over

Lots of choices. Seems like the 6.5 creed or PRC seems to be what is selling new and used these days. Was in a Cabela's store last week.
Looked about Browning X-bolts. 3/4 of the rifles were a 6.5 caliber
Thanks for all the food for thought.
I already have a couple 338Feds and have been very successful with the 185gr TSX.
Recently stumbled into a Thomson Encore in 330-06AI. Have played with that some and still deciding where it fits in the safe.
The 20 inch 338WM......agree that the...
I have all the bases cover with 338WM, couple Whelens, etc.
Was thinking if loading down a 338Wn would have less potential for accuracy, then a regular load in a 338-08 (ie 338 Fed - got those too) ?
Probably over thinking it, just find one in nice shape and go from there
I have a hunger for a Sako Mannlicher in a larger bore. Handled one a few years ago in 338 WM and is was a sweat little package. Spent too much time thinking it over and when I came back the next week, it was gone.
Causally shopping for one. I would image the recoil of full load 33WM with a...
little range time to determine the right, then chrono it.
It is an TC Encore so the barrel is long (26 inches) compared to the length of the overall rifle, thus should gain a little speed.
Worked into a deal and ended up with a Thompson Encore barrel in 338-06 AI.
Came with fire formed brass and dies and a few hand loads.
Looked around here and found load data. Just finished making some 210 PT with RL-15.
Will have to wait until next weekend for range time, but the 338-06AI...
JES already did a Tikka T3 into a 35 Whelen for me. Turned out right nice and shoots great too
Might just have to shoot regular old 280 with 160 PT and see how she does.
Pulled out of the back of a safe, a Tikka 695 in 280 Rem. Has been there for a while, when I purchased it, it certainly looked new and I have not fired it.
Trying to think, if there is something to make? Already have 338Fed, 338 WM and 35 Whelen covered.
Either leave as a 280 (already have...
Guy. I too was looking at a Sako AV rifle this week. The guy selling this bought it new and it has spent all it's life in the safe.
I held it, like it, but I already have the same rifle in 280AI thus didn't buy it. But still
Keep pondering it
Walked into the shop and asked to look it over. Mentioned that I liked the 280. They guy said "you must be from up in north?". Eventually southern Oregon coast people don't like the 280. Was glad to relocate it to 280 caliber friendly area.
Yep - mounted a 2.5-8 and she is might fine.
One...
Found this in a Hole in the Wall gun shop. Belonged to a buddy of the owner who passed away.
Remington 700 BDL Mountain in 280 Rem. The Mountain has the slimmer stock and barrel. Produced in 1982
Clean rifle, good deal and happy new owner.
Put a Leupold 2.5-8 on top. Sigh in some 150 gr...
Took my Marlin 35 Rem out after black bears this week. I can report (although no pictures) that the 35 Rem works wonders on black bears
The lever is a great rifle to carry in the close encounter areas.
