Planning to archery hunt elk in Oregon but this dry summer is going to shut things down on the timber company lands even before the season opens. Last year, the closed they areas I hunt to all access during the middle of archery.
Found this bullet test on the Hornady gummy tip. Wonder what effect having side holding the jugs has upon the test?
Would like to find a few boxes of the Hornady 200 gr FP but there out out of production

I have a few Whelens sitting around. My latest is a Tikka T3 bored into a Whelen
Nice shooter and easy on the packing shoulder. Little push on the shooting shoulder but with a Whelen...... it only takes one shot.
I have an Encore with 14 inch barrels in 223 and 7mm-08
Just got it a few months ago. The 7mm-98 seems to shot 120 gr BT well and tomorrow is first range day for the 223.

thanks for the feedback. One of the LGS had a used one for a decent price, but it just did not pull at me enough. For iron sites, I will stay with my Winchester Big Bore 375 Win.
I downed a smaller spring black bear last week, was probably 175 lbs. 40 yd shot. Bear was facing about 10:00 eating in some tall grass along a river bank. As she pulled a clump of grass, she raised her head, and I took a upper chest/neck shot. 200 gr E-tip from my 338 Federal and down she...
