Since I had to cancel my Nosler rifle for the wife's upcoming shoulder surgery in July, and going back to school in January, I'm thinking my graduation present should be a Montana Rifle Company .35 Whelen with a left hand action. It'll take a couple of years but I'm worth it. :)
After Wayno945's trip to the dark continent, and the way his Whelen performed, I'm strongly considering it. I bought my 30-06 with the intention of making it a Whelen but it shoots too good to mess with.

Never shoot a donor!! Actually sounds like a great project. I'd be on the lookout more an M70 30-06 and rebore it to 35. Might be cheaper. If not I guess a new rifle ain't a bad thing.

Those Montana Rifles are nice, Vince. However, building on a M70 action would be just about right.

Find me a left hand Model 70 then good sir. :)
My 30-06 is a Ruger.

I have a few Whelens sitting around. My latest is a Tikka T3 bored into a Whelen

Nice shooter and easy on the packing shoulder. Little push on the shooting shoulder but with a Whelen...... it only takes one shot.

Very cool Vince, glad you finally came around to the Whelen. I like a lot of cartridges, but the Whelen is pretty danged good in my opinion across the board. The LH Montana should be an excellent rifle as well. Congrats on the decision. Since you have a 30-06, a Whelen really is a great "bigger" cartridge. As all of the others said, fairly easy on the shooter and most of the rifles are pretty portable as well.

It will be done just might take a little time.
That I can afford, in stainless steel, with a synthetic stock. :)

Patience young grasshopper. I'm looking just those don't come up everyday. It'll be $800 to get into a Montana action. Which you might have to do.

I talked with Montana today.
The cost of a barreled action is more than a rifle. I'd have to get a new stock as I already know the synthetic stock is too long.

Vince,

Sorry to hear about your wife, I hope she has a speedy recovery and of course best wishes to you in school.
Thank you.
She'll be right mate. :)
As for the Whelen it will be a couple of years. I'm just window shopping right now.

Thanks mate but it'll be a couple years before I can acquire one.
Got too many pressing issues to deal with first.
