Am I Just Dreaming?

Charlie,

The meniscus is healing w/o surgery. However, osteoarthritis has become quite problematic. Being in Canada, I don't expect surgical intervention until matters reach a crisis.

For at least 10 years I've had very little mobility in any kind of rough terrain. No, none, nada cartalidge in the left knee. Complete bone on bone for years now. I was going nowhere fast.
So, May 8th I had a complete knee replacement and boy am I glad I did. I am still going to Physical Rehab. but I can bend the knee 114 degrees and straighten it to zero. I walk without a cane and I'm vigorously pursuing getting my new knee, and me back into shape. Finding the right doctor is the key.
I am 62 and I'm determined to hunt the west at least one more time. Funds permitting of course.
Sometimes it's better to just bite the bullet and go under the scalpel.

And were I living in the States rather than Canada, I might go immediately for a knee replacement. Under a single-payer system, you aren't permitted to "jump the queue.

I hope you are able to to hunt the West. I am sorry to hear of your troubles, Mike, DH and Charlie. Hope you three get mended enough and are able to hunt the Fall and hopefully the west (DH).

Keep after it. You old farts are pretty inspiring for us young Marines!

Are you kidding? Just watch for the pictures of the hunt! Of course I'll hunt. Now's a sorry time to quit. Pain is nothing but weakness leaving the body! At least, that's what I was told.

Yeah, I know you will hunt. With the country you love in I'd have a hard time on focussing on too much myself, other than hunting.

I positively hate the word "surgery". I went in to have an arteriorgram done Tuesday morning and they kept me until yesterday afternoon late. They wanted to do the complete surgery but I couldn't take it and asked to be discharged for awhile. They're going to have to strip one of my veins and bypass the area that's blocked as during the arteriorgram he couldn't get the wire through the plaque...too much and too hard, I was told. I missed my dog terrible also as he was boarded for the first time and did not do good. They told me he didn't eat and was very stressed.

If possible I'm going to wait till week after next when I can get his usual sitter that he's use to and can stay home. I'm not walking/sleeping too good and toes are tingly, stinging, numb feeling. Oh, to be 25 again...well, I'd settle on 55 before all this started. I NEED to get to the range, having terrible withdrawals but I know Id never walk from the benches to the 100 yard target frame. I'm hoping after this vein bypass thing I'll have some degree of normality again.

I'm still looking at rifles and trying to do a little reloading to get my mind off things. Sorry for dumping my problems but, my dog don't understand and there's no one else to "listen". :)

No sweat, Col. If I was near, I'd run targets for you, just to get you out doing something enjoyable.

I hear you. Flying isn't cheap. I wish I had about ten acres in the country I'd just step out on the back porch and fire away.

A 35 Whelen is never a bad idea for anybody or any mobility. They certainly have a way of planting game too. That way you don't have to waste the energy chasing them!

I don't think I've even shown you guys mine.... so here it is, although not the greatest picture I thought it might spark some interest for Colt!

It's built on a FN '98 action from Belgium in a High Tech Stock from Mark Bansner w/Sunny Hill bottom metal although I'm not sure of the barrel maker since I bought it used back in 1998 when it was still in a very nice Walnut/Ebony stock. It wears a Swarovski PV 30mm 1.5-6x42 scope shooting a 225 TSX, great light weight rig after lugging my heavy tactical gun in a match for three days.

That is a beautiful Whelen buddy! Looks like it is meant for the mountains. Very nice!

Thanks scotty, it's actually my favorite rifle to hunt with around here since it's so thick in the heavy cover. Might seem strange but the pan handle has very dense timber and not a lot of open country except on the south facing slopes you might find some open hillsides.

Up until I got the Pre64 338, I was perfectly content to hunt elk anywhere, anyplace with my 35 Whelen. Still am, but it shares time with the 338.

I thought I'd never see the day when I would be any rifle in a synthetic stock. Ugly to me and some looked like they got barfed on. I eat some crow when I bought this Predator Hunter Max-1 in 243. In fact, I liked it so well, I bought a clone in 22-250! If they had one in 35 Whelen I probably would have gotten that too.

Very good rifles though. I think it is one of the best 243's out there. Nothing wrong with a rifle that'll shoot itty bitty groups at all.

Here is the Whelen in 2011... There are elk right over the muzzle on the hillside. Unfortunately, no spikes...

This was the big guy on the other side..

Very nice rifle! Looks to be a 700 CDL-just what I'd like to have....that and the elk.
