I was in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England yesterday with friends, one of whom was buying a new rifle, a Sauer 202 6.5x55SE & it's a nice rifle, but the chap in the gun shop, a real real gentleman showed me the most beautiful rifle I ever laid my hands on!
A Mauser in .275 Rigby/7x57 dating from the 1950's & scoped with a period Swarovski Habicht (Post sight).
Trigger - superb! Action slick but not quite like Mannlicher... lovely wood stock & really nice hand cut engraving on the magazine & action. Hand cut by a jeweller at Westly Richard guns. Simply gorgeous & came up in nice crisp style to the shoulder.
If I'd been 20 yrs younger I'd have bought it in a heartbeat. It's a real big game hunting rifle but absolutely on the button for any species including deer, elk, Caribou, bear & anything else you can imagine. It's priced at 3,000£/$4000 also, the damn thing had hardly been shot!!!

I too am a big fan of the 275 Rigby. I expected to see mine with it’s new barrel this week but learned the smith is off antelope hunting. I can live with that excuse.
Someday I would love to own a rifle that matches the one you describe, I’ll take good wood over plastic any day.

In the United States that rifle would be at least double if not triple the price you saw it at.

People spend more than that on art. If you gave up a $15 lunch for 9 months you would have saved enough money to buy that rifle.

Hey, come to think of it, I am way behind on spending my (former) cigarette money for rifles. I quit smoking the last time in order to afford a new rifle I wanted. That worked very well. I just looked up the current cost of cigarettes in upstate NY. The average is $14/pack. I had a pack a day habit. I am saving over $5,000 per year now. I am not spending that much on guns and reloading.

What the heck, if you can pay for your housing, your food, your clothing, and a few other nice things, what is the harm in acquiring a classic rifle. I convinced my wife that engraving on a rifle was art and she paid for it...
