Wanted to post some neat pics from a trail cam. I hunt roughly an hour inland from Charleston, SC and tropical storm Debby came through. She dumped a whole lot of rain on most of the state. The two pics are from the same camera, in the exact same position on the tree, taken before and after...
Yep I know they're not made for full power 454 loads. I already have the 240gr XTP Mag's loaded over a case full of H110. Haven't hunted with or chronoed them yet. I still might run some of the 250 grainers faster into jugs just to see how they do.
This is a recovered 250gr Hornady XTP from a good sized doe shot from a Freedom Arms .454 Casull. I was hunting out of a ground blind and honestly didn't make a great shot. I realized I jerked the trigger as soon as the shot broke. Doe was quartering to me and instead of hitting the front end of...
I got my first a couple years ago, a T3x Super Varmint in 6.5 PRC and it's been awesome. Definitely will be getting another Tikka in the not so distant future.
Doesn't seem like the 44's get enough love around here, so here's another. This was a 210gr Gold Dot loaded over H110 and chronoed right at 1600 fps from the 7.5 in barrel of a Super Blackhawk Hunter 44 Mag. I shot a small 7 point at roughly 40 yards. He was slightly quartering away at the shot...
Bullets can do weird things, even good ones. You never know if the shot was as good as you think or if you hit a branch or the deer moved at the last second. One of the biggest bucks I've ever seen in person, I finally got a shot at after hunting him for four years. I was using a gun & load that...
That looks a lot like the Ray Thompson SWC, which is a great bullet. That should definitely do the trick, especially if it's cast soft enough to expand, with a BHN of 12 you should be good. I wish Nosler still made the Partition for big bore pistols. Luckily Swift makes the A-Frames in a bunch...
Nice, good luck! What specific bullet are you going with? I shot several deer, including a nice old buck with the Lyman 429421 Keith SWC out of the same gun. They were very accurate, but deer always ran and blood trails were on the thin side. They never went more than 50ish yards, but where I...
I shot a small buck a few years back with a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in .44 Mag that was massaged by SSK. I cast bullets from Lyman mold 429640 with wheel weights with a little tin added. With lube and gas check they weigh 270 grs. They shot quite well, putting a cylinder full under three...
I loaded some of these in a 6.5 PRC Tikka T3x with Staball HD. They were sub-moa with every powder charge I tried and smoked a doe around 100 yards. She went straight down & had a good exit. Definitely will play with them some more.
This is a 140gr Hornady Monoflex from a handloaded 30-30. This is the 30-30 version, not the 308 Marlin Express one. Loaded over Leverevolution powder and CCI primer in Hornady brass. I believe muzzle velocity was around 2200 fps from the 20" barrel of my buddy's stainless Marlin 336.
This...
I've not had any problems with 6.5 PRC in mine. Hopefully the new jaws fix your issue. The very few times I've had to call their customer service, they've been awesome.
