Are we talking 400 yards in terms of energy at that range? I'm thinking a heavy bullet at those speeds may have quite the arcing trajectory.

I've noticed in my short time on this forum that there is some serious love for the .35 Whelen.
If I didn't know any better I'd think some kind of sickness is going around.
Why is it so sought after? Won't any of the traditional calibers work just as well?
How does it compare to the 300 or...
It's reverse psychology.
If I can get you guys to talk me out of it, that will make me want to buy it before I don't want it anymore.
:scratchhead:
That made sense before I typed it ...
Whew...!
I dodged a bullet. I went to Sportsman's and wisely didn't lay hands on the Vanguard. I'm proud of myself for not giving in to temptation.
If I am a little patient, save a little bit more and maybe sell one of my other guns, then I can get the .257 guilt free.
They had a Vanguard S2...
I'm going to Sportsman's this afternoon.
I don't need a Vanguard S2 .257 Weatherby.
Please talk me out of it.
It's too expensive to shoot.
It's too hard on barrels.
It's over-rated. Many other cartridges do the same thing.
It's not big enough for elk.
Anything 6.5, 7, or 30 is better.
I was reading your numbers wrong. I see now that they are relative to a 250 yard zero. For some reason I was thinking 300.
That's pretty close to the trajectory that I came up with at 2910 fps.
So I'm going antelope hunting in southern Utah this fall. My hunting mentor/co-worker is telling me to sight in my '06 at 300 yards.
I gotta say, I'm skeptical. My RAR '06 likes Federal 150 grain soft points, and zeroed at 300 gives a 10" arc from 100-350 yards.
He's telling me that 300...
