    Hunting trophies?

Until this year my elk and deer antlers have been European mounts or just cut off the skull. This years 4X4 Mulie, even though just better than average per my guide, will be a shoulder mount that I can gaze upon in my olde age, remembering the day....:-). I have a black bear rug from my bear...

    Where to start?

Sorry I have no personal experience with your rifle or load. In your situation I would start with a call to Barnes and Hogdon respective customer service lines to see if they can offer suggestions.. Good Luck, Rol

    STARTING A FIRE

I carry cotton balls saturated with Vaseline, water proof matches and the steel striker as primary tools. Back up is a pint size plastic jar containing a small roll of shop towel soaked with 99% isopropyl alcohol. Excellent firestarter and doubles for sanitary use.

    30-06, some numbers

Thanks for the comparison Guy, very interesting. When I have time I will try to do a similar comparison of the creedmore to the .270 win. Probably not as telling as your work, it will be interesting to see..

    Shooting from a tripod

My experience is limited to the BOG tripod after shooting two animals in Montana last fall while using the tripod.. It doubles as a walking stick, if you are careful not to bang the legs together it is quiet, and the increase in stability is great for me. Before last fall I thought it was just...

    IMR 4451 in 30-06 ?

I have found 56.6 gr of IMR 4451 under a 180 grain Partition to be very accurate and effective on Mule Deer and elk.. using Nosler cases and Federal 210 primers. Velocity runs about 2,730 fps out of a 24" barrel. In my Ruger #1 with a 22" barrel I drop about 30 fps. Good luck.

    Fifty Years Ago (Rol P)

The picture was taken in my Dad's garage, the old lanterns are long gone. My Dad and I hunted together back when I was a young fella. The shotgun is my Browning Sweet Sixteen, a birthday present from Mom and Dad. It has a place of honor next to my Dad's Browning Light 12 in the gun cabinet...

    Rol_P Busted by Big Buck!

Dan's post is 100% accurate as far as the story goes.. Omitted is the fact the winds were in constant change this morning and the buck was not coming from the bedding area as I expected him to do. It was a wonderful day, Dan even went back to his house and brought us a wonderful...

    Lead Free Bullets

Does anyone have experience with lead free bullets? I have used Nosler Partitions and Accubonds with great success. The only reason I see to switch is to be more sensitive, responsible, toward the environment, specifically eagles and other critters feeding on entails left in the field. The...

What a Difference a Guide Makes

The long anticipated 2017 Montana Hunting Trip is nearing a close. What a season it has been. First off, Rodger, aka Truckdriver and I started planning a get together to hunt elk and deer last winter when we met for lunch in Maryland with our wives. Rodger had learned of my previous successes...
