    Federal Fusion Tipped Ammo

I have been reading some good things about Federal's new Tipped Fusion ammo of late, but hadn't actually seen any here north of the border to try yet... I finally found some at the LGS for the 6.5 CM and 7MM PRC, so I grabbed a box of each to try. Reasonably priced compared to some other ammo...

    H4350 vs IMR 4350

Nosler lists 38.0 gr of IMR4350 as max for the 100 gr bullets for 2700 fps (22" barrel). (Nosler does not list H4350 for any bullet weight of 100-120 gr) in the 250 Savage.) Compare that to the max of 40.5 gr of H4350 for a 100 gr bullet for 2936 fps, and you'll see that there is a difference in...

Sadly, I think I’m done with Partitions

I too have never had an issue with obtaining acceptable (1-1 1/4" groups) to excellent accuracy (sub-MOA groups) with Partitions over the years, whether I was using book COAL or measuring the jump to the lands as my reloading skills developed later. There have been many instances where the rifle...

Twist rate for .257 115 to 130 monos; 257 AI

My research after getting my new-to-me LH Sako in 257 Roberts last year showed that the 257 was hampered by the 1:10 twist, where many were finding that it would not properly stabilize the heavier bullets (115-120 gr) properly for utmost accuracy, and that those that rebarreled to a 1:9 twist...

Moose Hunting Outfitter in the Yukon ?

Makes $20,000 USD for a Nunavut muskox hunt sound inexpensive…until you compare the pricing to one in Greenland!

    Talk to me about VihtaVuori

Online research showed N560 as a preferred powder, but QuickLoad showed better performance with N555 so ‘ll try it first. I just didn’t have any, but do have the N560 on hand. I’ll be sticking the LRP brass, for hunting here in the great white north. Looking forward to seeing how it performs...

    Best Tasting Animal?

The best tasting deer I ever shot was a mulie-whitetail hybrid that was living in the alfalfa fields...no gaminess whatsoever!

    Talk to me about VihtaVuori

I definitely need to run more QuickLoad data for my rifles with VV powders! Starting with the 280 Rem, 150 gr AB and BT, and VN560...and then the 270 WSM...

    2026 Wish List?

May have missed it...but do not recall seeing the Nosler 2026 Wish List thread yet... Still on my recurring Wish List: 260 gr 41 cal bullets for the 41 Rem Mag New Wish List: 25 cal 120-130 gr AccuBond for hunting (25 CM; but with the new 25 RPM I see some demand there too!)

    2026 Rifle Plans

Well here we go... I had forgotten when I first posted in this thread that I had posted in the Christmas WIshlist thread, that I had ordered the following rifle through the LGS before Christmas... https://www.marlinfirearms.com/s/.model_70453/...

    257 ABLR ? 120-125?

Timely revival of an old thread... The new Hdy ELD-X is 128 gr with a BC of 0.633. The ELD-M is 134 gr with a BC of 0.645. The A-Tip Match 138 gr has a BC of 0.695. I just acquired some of the ELD-X for my 25 CM project. Will have a 24" barrel with 1:7.5 twist as I am a hunter not a long range...

    Talk to me about VihtaVuori

I have limited first hand experience with VV powders so far, but what I have has been good. Hasn't always provided the most accurate groups with various bullets in cartridges tried so far, but they have been acceptable (sub-MOA). (My load of WXR with 180 gr AB 0.442" groups at 100 yards) If I...

    Another leather project

Patrick, feel free to post pics of your projects for me. Looking forward to getting them now that we have the shipping figured out! FYI for those here: Patrick made me a double magazine carrier for Sako 85 magazines, and a wrist cartridge carrier for the 6.5 CM/6.5 Swede for when I am hunting...

    Best Tasting Animal?

I have eaten a lot of other game I didn't list. (Whitetail, mule deer, pronghorn, mountain goat, black and grizzly bear; all good - didn't eat the wolf or coyotes...always heard it was poor doin's to serve dog!) I know when I was very young we used to eat critters from the trapline...

    Best Tasting Animal?

Domestically, mountain sheep is very good! I've heard the old mountain men used to argue between it and cougar. I've had cougar once, and it was good, but not sure if it was better than sheep... 🤔 Hard to beat a young moose! And I really like elk too! And I also like bison and caribou! The...

    Thoughts on next year's build

    338 rpm

Yes the 338 Federal is a short action cartridge, and the Model 88 was a 308 Win. While it was simple to rebarrel, the feed rails tooks some modification to open for reliable feeding, as did the magazine too. Works great now! Actually, all 3 were 308's. The 7mm-08 and 250 Savage did not require...
