I believe you’re spot on. Looking back over my short hunting time here so far, nothing that I have done couldn’t have been with a 270/7 Rem/etc. I use other stuff these days cause that’s what i do but it doesn’t change the outcome of my hunting.
And yeah, could easily get by with a 30-06. No...
Just me, but I don’t have to trim very much. I keep my dies to size about .002” back on the shoulder and upon their initial firing they pretty much stay the same. I do take care to keep expanders lubed so they don’t drag and pull on the neck too much. But then again I don’t sweat my cases being...
Looks like both of them will do 2500-2600 pretty easily without standing on anything too hard with the 180 Norma's.

For sure. AB's went around 2700 from my old mans gun with RL16 and about 50 less with H4350. If I was looking to do it again, I'd probably do just about the same thing. The Oryx's are really cool bullets though, but then most bullets Norma makes are pretty good.
What was the QL you were...
So welcome aboard! Dig the call sign!
When I loaded for my dad’s 30-06 BAR I treated it as any bolt rifle. They aren’t weak and will take whatever you throw at them. I loaded 180 ABs with H4350 and RL16. Any normal powder for the 180 in the 06 will work fine.
Case dents in the mouth happen...
Congrats on the deer! With the way the bullet is blowing through it just may not be that huge in expanded diameter so you get amazing penetration and good expansion, just not huge expansion that seems to help out deer down faster. Hard telling exactly but the end result looks great from here.
