Nope, for grouse and such don’t want expansion.
Here they start to tumble past 100 yards. This is 13 shots, Bullseye is 1.5". 7.8 grains TG, 168 grain Sierra Match.
My 308's love trailboss and titegroup with 168 grain eld m. Around 8 grains of titegroup or 10 grains of trailboss.
Also 170g cast bullets with 8 grains of IMR green.
All are around 1050 fps. Use for target and small game inside 100 yrds. Haven't tried them at longer distance.
I find Hodgdon's starting load for a 300 grain Sierra Gameking bullet using Staball 6.5 very accurate. 53 Ft Lbs recoil in a 7 pound rifle. They have load data for a 270 grain Hornady. I would try the Staball 6.5 or the IMR 4350.
My favorite for a jacketed bullet is 250 grain Sierra Gameking...
i have a 375 ruger that is light weight. It does hurt to shoot full power 300 grain bullet loads. I even put a small sand bag against my shoulder on the bench then.
However hand loading makes it a much more useful gun.
grouse/bunny/gallery- round ball and 5 grains bullseye
off hand practice...
I have seen people say that Magnum Primers are useful with Ball powders, esp. in cold weather. Would that be a thing with the new Winchester Staball powders?
The only powder I had go bad was from WW2. Surplus 4895. H335 from the same time worked okay.
I am currently shooting the last of a can of Dupont Pistol #6 in a 44 mag. Using Primers in wooden trays.
I saw the 195 grain 308 and wondered what cartridge they were making those for. At first I though they were the 190 bullets for subsonic.
a 134 grain 25 cal!

Jackrabbit grilled with BBQ sauce is tasty if a bit chewy.
Young bear was liked by even my curious vegetarian friends when made as swiss steak.
Pig is excellent.
Anything I have to buy a big game license for is big game
Anything I legally can't shoot with 22 rimfire is big game
Anything I can't just pick up and carry with one hand to pack out is big game
You bring two Prusiks or ascending devices. Climb up or down as needed. Here is a good video of one method. I have pre-tied cords I keep on my harness that are the two lengths needed so i don't have to futz around with extra slings and carabiners.
You are right about the athletic ability...
