    280 Rem & IMR-4451

I stopped by Cabelas this afternoon and they had a good stash of IMR-4451 on sale and I almost grabbed a pound or 2. Has anyone had any luck with it in a 280 (or 25-06)? Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk

    280 Rem - QL Request

I've got both of those powders on the shelf so I might give them a go. 56 gr. of IMR-4831 has my go to load for about a year and, according to my old shooting chrony, was giving me 2950 fps, so I'm a little surprised by the low velocity according to the Magnetospeed.

    280 Rem - QL Request

Thanks Dr. Mike! I appreciate it. I'll give that some thought Horsethief. What kind of velocities are getting?

    280 Rem - QL Request

I don't have a computer with my QL installed on it anymore (I'm waiting on an external dvd drive to show up). While I'm waiting could someone run some quick numbers for me? I included the velocity I got with a Magnetospeed last trip out if that helps to match things up. I'm curious to see...

    Magnetospeed Sporter chrono

Guess I should've read this thread before I started one on the exact same subject. Good to hear good things about this chrony. Can't wait to get mine.

    25-06 & 280_Ladder Test input

Not sure. I'm waiting on my Magnetospeed and I don't have access to my quickload anymore. Based on other QL's I've ran with 117 gr. SPH & IMR-4831...I'm guessing in the 3200-3250 fps, but like I said, this rifle seems to run a little slow so it's just a guess right now.

    25-06 & 280_Ladder Test input

Second trip out to run some ladder tests. I only got 1 set in before the fog got bad enough that I couldn't see the target anymore, but I think I've definitely got something going with the 25-06. It looks like 53.0 gr. to 53.8 gr. (maybe 54.0 gr.) is gonna be my sweet spot. I haven't run...

    Magnetospeed Sporter

Just put an order in for a Magnetospeed Sporter tonight (along with the interface cable). I've been looking at one pretty hard since I first heard about them since my local range is usually pretty busy and it's a pain in the rear to get a chrony set up. Anyway...is there anything as far as...

    Cabelas

The Cabelas here had 4-8 lb jugs of IMR-4831 for a cool $200/jug. The local gun shop 2 miles away...$170/jug. Could be the LGS had some older stock they were holding back or Cabelas is taking advantage...who knows. Unless their prices align a little more, I won't be buying anymore powder...

    25-06 & 280_Ladder Test input

I've got a few pounds of IMR-4350 that might get a test run. I've tried it in the past in this rifle without much success but may be worth another look. Thanks for the input fellas.

    25-06 & 280_Ladder Test input

I agree with you on the 280. Im gonna run this one again....might try a ladder with some 140 gr AB's when my backorder comes in. I've already got a decent load with them but it could be a little better.

    25-06 & 280_Ladder Test input

Got to the range for the first time in about 2 months to run some ladder tests with the 25-06 & 280. This is my first go with ladder testing and I'm pretty sure there are a few things to tweek with my process. Couldn't have asked for a better morning...55*, 5-10 mph. All 3 sets were shot...

    Sometimes we overthink it...

Good read...thanks for posting. I'm the poster child for "overthinking it". I've taken about a 2 month break from the reloading bench and just got back into this last week. My test method has always been to work up in 0.5 gr. increments...loading 3-5 rounds per charge looking for a tight...

What is the best fastest cleaner you ever used?

Wipe-Out foam (the way I use it...wouldn't consider it "fast") I use Butch's too but it's nasty stuff. If I keep up on the maintenance, the Wipe-Out does a good job.

    25-06 running slow?

Not surprised by the chrony numbers for Hornady factory ammo. I ran 5 rounds of factory Hornady 117 gr Interlocks through my chrony a few months ago (25-06 24'' barrel Model 70). Not one of them went over 2550 fps and accuracy was horrible. ksubuck...my experience with my 25-06 is the slower...

    Old School

I've been using the Lee dippers since I started reloading...got them from my Grandpa who probably bought the set I have when they first came out (just guessing). For me, I don't have to use a trickler. I even talked my buddy into buying a set. Wouldn't go without 'em Oh...and I have a Lee...

    2015 Hunting Pictures

April 2015 Texas Hog Hunt Me and my buddy took down 6 hogs but only came home with 3 of em...2 of them had been wounded by other hunters and were infected. The other one I hit on a dead run at 300 yards, looked for him for over 2 hours and figured he ran off. We ended up hunting the same area...
