My Sako Mod 2700 in 300wm was bedded and tuned by a master gunsmith ,wearing a Leupold Vari x 2 in 3x9x40 adj with a cpc reticle using handloads with Rem or Fed Mag Primer,72gr of IMR 4831 and a 180gr Nosler Solid Base or sierra game king has dropped mule deer a bit beyond 600 yards.I don't...
I use Den 42 & 43 Brass and commercial,Rem or Fed Mag rifle primers instead of match didn't have any,47.5gr IMR 4895, I don't load comp bullets 168gr so I used the Nosler 165gr Ballistic Tip.Group was 1.5 inch to 2 inch article said 1,2, or 3 min of angle.I used this load to kill a Mule Deer...
Military method was soap & water for a couple of days and then use military lube in the barrel of my Carbine M-2.When I fired corrosive ammo in my M-1 Garand I used soapy water on consecutive days to clean it then oiled well.
One of my friends uses the 165 gr solid base bullet in his 300 weatherby for Rocky Mtn Elk in CO & gets one shot kills. It's adequate for Mule Deer,I use the 165gr sb in my Sako 06 & 300wm.
Go to http://www.usoptics.com and check out the scoped rifle. A Remington 03A4 is as accurate today as when it was built according to a friend who watched a demonstration of the rifle putting all of the rounds in a very small hole. http://auction.odcmp.com/auctions/detail.asp?id=574
Since our garage isn't used for our vehicles and is more for storage in CA I built a reloading room in one corner .I have an electric heater for cold weather as it gets down in the teens at night in the foothills of the san bernardino mtns.
I started out reloading 38/357/243/30-06/45-70 with an RCBS Jr single stage loader then went to a Dillon RL 450 which I upgraded to a RL550B used for 38/357/41/45acp/45lc/454casull/sw460/243/30-06/300wm & 45-70.
I've read countless articles on all of the big bore rifles for game worldwide but the 100 year old 30-06 has a better kill record than anything devised to date.It has been used to kill every species of big game around the world and hundreds of thousands soldiers in the world wars and...
Purchase the Nosler Reloading Guide 5th Edition they have loads they've worked up that I've tried and were very accurate in my sako 06 and sako 300wm.For your 7mm mag 160gr most accurate load with imr 4831 is 63gr = 3006fps.The most accurate powder tested is Viht N165 using a max load of 61gr...
As long as the ammo is accurate enough to kill what I aim at it's satisfactory enough for me I use winchester, remington, federal and 1942/1943 Denver 06 military brass. This is hunting ammo not benchrest competition. If I can place 5 shots in 7/16 of an inch with my sako 06 or 1.5 inch with my sako...
165gr Nosler Solid Base fired in 06 RP case,58gr of IMR 4831,CCI Large Rifle Primer 5 shots in 7/16 inch at 100 yards.Rifle pre 72 Sako Finnbear fully bedded and tuned. My WW2 veteran friends told me when I was just starting out reloading that the best all around bullet for the 06 is the 165gr,I...
I get excellent accuracy with my Sakos in 300wm and 30-06 both are bedded and tuned topped with Vari x 2 Leupolds with CPC Reticles.I use Fed 215 or Rem 9 1/2 Mag Rifle primers and IMR 4831:58gr with a 165gr nos solid base in the 06 and 72gr with a 180gr accubond in the 300wm .
Poll doesn't list my semiauto Sig Sauer P 220 in 45acp don't need any others this is accurate enough for me.First time I fired it I put approx 50 230gr ball rounds in a 2"x3" hole center mass in a Silhouette target at 7 yards.
The San Carlos Apache Guide I hired for an anterless elk hunt told me he uses 130gr ammo in his 270 for elk, it's all about bullet placement.A good friend of mine has used a Ruger #1 in 6mm for elk in Colorado but he can place his shots just like he did in vietnam as a usmc sniper. .
I'll stay away from the really big bores in the encore pistol barrels. I have a 15" encore pistol in 454 casull with a TC Muzzle Tamer that doesn't tame it when shooting winchester 260 grain partition gold ammo or any other ammo. The 15" 30-06 encore barrel with a muzzle brake from...
