I m very curious to see more info on any R26 results with heavy bullets in 7/08.
I m.currently shooting 47.2 grs H4350 with 162 AMax and oal of 2.90. Velocity right at 2700-2710 FPS out of 24” barrel. QL showing another 100 + FPS with R26!! I m pretty confident that I can get 49 grs of...
Only problem with big family run profitable businesses is the conglomerates buy them when opportunity arises. Kind of like Les Schwab tire sold out a year or so ago. Younger generations often want the $$$ more than the work/headache. Original Founder 6 feet under and lots of relatives want ‘to...
Only use “H” 4895 unless Hodgdon tells you different.
I ve found with numerous cartridges that right at 70% of max charge of H4895 provides significant recoil reduction AND very good accuracy. ( better than 60% load in my experience)
Good Luck!
Your load is very similar velocity and accuracy wise to mine. Also shooting 53.5 grs R26 with 105 AMax at 3.335 oal. WB 24” Vanguard. 3260 FPS.
Haven’t tried any higher loads and only tried Retumbo one time, popped a primer at 57 grs and accuracy wasn’t good so figured stay with R26 and not...
When and where I grew up this irrational greed wasn’t alive. Everybody worked hard for a living and most everyone’s income was similar.... one of the current economies problems imho. Just such a large discrepancy between different folks; I understand capitalism but to the extremes now a days...
I had accuracy problems with 162 ELDx in both my 7 RM and 7-08. Same load with 162 AMax or Eldm and sub-moa. I believe it’s more temperamental to tune due to jacket taper and interlock... friends had same experience accuracy wise too. We gave up on them and use them for fouling shots now .. lol

Scottie, your right about not having time too see the light :-) lol
I m running Weatherby brass in my 257... do you have case capacity comparison vs 7RM WW brass ran through F/L die ?? That is very appealing cost wise!!
Scotty, that is moving! Looks like 77.8 to 78.0 might be a node. Did you stop at 78.4 due to pressure or seen no reason for more speed? That a 24 or 26” barrel?
Thx Bud
Anyone tried R33 in 240 or 257 WB with heavy bullets? I ve had good luck with R26 but friend just did some testing with R33 in 6-280 AI wildcat and getting great velocity, accuracy and 95-100% case fill.
Thx for any experiences.
Scotty, many moons ago helped a friend with a 26" factory barreled Rem 700 SPS. Stumbled quickly into 92 grains of Retumbo with 200 AB. Length was pretty short; don't recall, as magazine allowed 3.6 or slightly under if memory serves and it shot repeatedly sub MOA at 100. Like 5/8-3/4". It was...
I d say that velocity / charge mirroring my results where 53.5 got me 3250 fps.
As others have mentioned R26 can seem fine and then sneak right up on you. I d move slowly. Keep us posted! ( your test load would be pretty close to 3400 fps with a couple inch longer barrel; that's screaming)
Remington, +1 to Fotis; be careful. I think 55 might be over the top.
Might load 1 or 2 at 53 ish and try first! Don't forget your shooting glasses and let us know your results.
My 10 twist 24" Vanguard stabilizes the 105 AMax fine. Have shot Steel to 800 with it.
I was running 52.5 grs of R22 and getting 3150 fps. Thought what the heck and tried R26. 53.5 grs gets me 3250 fps and haven't tried to go any higher. Shoots sub MOA and figured 3250 is pretty good for a 24"...
89.3 grs of Retumbo in Lapua case and 300 MK or 300 Berger shot submoa for me in Savage. Not a hot load, 2715 fps, but accurate and easy on brass in my gun.
Only shot 9 or 10 300 Accubonds with 87.5 grs of Retumbo but it was accurate too. Never chronographed it.
Remingtonman, my Vanguard is a 10 twist and I can shoot and stabilize 105 gr AMaxes with R26 out of that 24" barrel.
I ll need to look up the new 7.5 twist Vanguard as Scotties right, can't build one for the same cost!
Scotty, I have a 240 Bee that I really like but once that barrel goes south I want to replace it with either a 6-06 or this 6-280AI. 6-06 makes most financial sense but this 6-280 AI has impressed the heck out of me.
All those big 6 s are addictive!
