For light loads Hodgon Tite group is your friend. A starting load of 4.0grs under a 185gr LRNFP produces 819fps in an 8" barrel and 6,600cups. 4.5grs under a 200gr LRNFP produces 846fps in an 8" barrel and 8,600cups.
This powder responds well with lower then published powder charges in pistol...
With that short barrel and light weight, I would go with a 180gr-200gr lead semi wad cutter being a close-range belly gun to hold recoil down and still have the terminal effect desired from a large hole and full penetration.
Yeah I'm a SWC fan in handguns and they just flat-out work. No need for...
No ballistic expert but rate of twist has a lot to do with it bullets key holing. My 257 Roberts with a 1-12" twist will not stabilize anything over 115gr and then it has to be a round nose bullet in 115gr.
I believe the older 22-250s barrels were twisted 1-12" to shoot light bullets very fast.
If you buy or can compare a factory magazine or other aftermarket with a Metal Form you will be surprised to see that the follower is the only difference sometimes. I have Wilson, Chip McCormick and MecGar, granted I only use them in my full custom 1911 .45 acp and my 38 Super but Metal Form are...
Saw this over on Weatherby and thought I would share the link,
it makes for interesting reading if you are tired of the black or camo paint on your synthetic stocks, there are other links over on Weatherby to you tube videos which this forum doesn't support

I only use made in the USA Metal Form magazines in all my 1911s, with that said the Mcgar magazines are made in Italy.
Most US manufactures rely on Metal Form for their factory magazines, The Military pistol teams only use Metal Form and nothing else.
By the best and save money buy not buying...
Paul Sorry to hear of your recurring cancer, that treatment doesn't sound like a lot of fun, good luck with it and you have my prayers for full recovery.
Don very sorry to hear about this and my prayers go out for him on a full and quick recovery.
Cancer when caught at an early stage can be curable unfortunately stage four is pure hell for those who face the treatments.
Young men in their 30's should start getting regular checkups and me doing so...
I guess I wasn't quite clear in my post so I thought I would clarify that I wasn't referring to a standard 35 Whelen but an Ackley improved version of the Whelen with the 40-degree shoulder.
I wanted something different then an off the rack rifle.
Quick load tweaked using CFE223 and 225 Nosler...
Good luck with that Preacher, I won a Vanguard in 300Wby which had a Tupper ware plastic stock on it, the recoil was so ferocious it would loosen the action screws and tore the forward sling stud out of the stock with a bi-pod attached to add weight and help to hold the muzzle down, busted a...
I'm with Bruce Mc on the loss of brain cells trying to figure it out, so I let someone else do it for me who has a ballistic app when I hunted at higher elevations but tried to do my load development in the fall for big game rifles and spring for varmint rifles.
Scotty helped me out when I went...
Just to let people know the CRPF bolts were also found in the long actions like 30-06 which I have one of that I had rebored to .358 and chambered for the 35 Whelen AI.
Since all of my push feeds are long actions, I replaced the Winchester synthetic stocks with either wood or good synthetic...
