That is some pretty bad smoke.

    Sitting in the shade.

Very humid today, don’t know how you guys back east do it. 93 degrees and 34% humidity.

    Sitting in the shade.

Getting smoke from two 5000 acre fires just west of us about 40 miles. There are two more to the Sw but prevailing wind is keeping that smoke away.

    Sitting in the shade.

88 degrees, humidity in the teens. Thunder clouds over the Eagle Cap Wilderness. So far no fire too close to us. Hope it stays that way.

    Taxidermy,costs,and the here after

I just received my invoice from Africa Wildlife Artistry. The prices for skull mounts only went up a little bit from 4 years ago. In any event, range from $220 for the Springbok to 280.00 for the Warthog. Includes crating, does not include shipping. Don’t want to think about that. I’ve listed...

    Douglas barrels

I bought one, looks like it had been rifled with a hand held Dremmel tool. Un-F believable. Their simple response was we don’t hand-lap. No shit. Did a full treatment with Tubbs fire lapping which failed to remove the gouges crossing diagonal across the rifling. Where the lands and groves meet...

    Lesson Learned and an Experiment

Yep, done it more than once, I do think Rl 26 will green up the yard faster than H4350!

Another question for all us hunters: Favourite method?

Amoung all that steep ground there are flats and benches I very much gravitate to flat ground now! I do think hunting pheasants, quail grouse and chukar over pointing dogs is the best use of day there is. Molly and Sugar are done, Both going on 15. Sugar had a mild stroke two weeks ago but has...

Another question for all us hunters: Favourite method?

Yes, lots of glassing but also looking for other hunters moving on a far ridge. Use their movement to push elk. Most of the time I still can get within 300 yards with a little effort.

Another question for all us hunters: Favourite method?

Spot and stalk, about the only game in town where I hunt. Some still hunting during the midday, through the timber pockets. Though I’ve had some success sitting about mid day eating lunch and had elk or deer just kinda show up.

    entry/mid level binoculars

Very good point on technology and improving. Wasn’t that many years ago top end Leupold binos were not that great. Very much better now. Maven, some of these other optics company’s coming on line are reportedly producing good stuff. When I reported the entry level vortex were horrible, you...

    What would you do?

This is what I do as well, having booted more than one box carrying a mixed lot for load testing. Even when I’m only trying two different loads, both get labeled with the sharpie. I typically don’t pull bullets on loads that don’t pan out I’ll just shoot them at steel plates from field...

    entry/mid level binoculars

my Swarovski binos were stolen on my way to Africa, that hurt. I borrowed a pair of Vortex diamond backs, 200 dollar version my god they were awful. Please don't buy those. Bx 3 or 4 from Leupold would be a good place to start.

    Interesting POI changes.

Took the .375 H&H to the range this morning to work on a little load developement. In spite of a called shot with the Stabl 6.5 the group was good, two touching and the called third shot. 2503 fps. I’ll add 1/2 grain to see if I gain a little velocity. Then I fired a load of H4350, no...

    New Swift Z Bullet

Yes same outfitter/land owner. They acquired a 250,000 acre piece west of East London a couple years ago. I have not hunted that ground yet but it’s good for Buffaloe and fantastic for Kudu. Good Nyala also. The ranch I hunted twice, near Bedford has Buffalo but not as many. That bull taken by...
