    Fairy Tale Book Scene

I found this little scene during my walk through the woods this morning. There is on a steep bank and there is a big opening under the rock, but it is hard to see how deep it goes in the photo. I half expected to see a gnome, pixie, elf, fairy, or leprechaun peeking out at me. But, I guess...

Can Cougars Push Deer and Elk Out of an Area?

When my Aunt and Uncle lived in in Colorado a lion moved into their area for while. They had photos of it beside their house. My uncle found numerous deer carcasses all over the place. During a discussion with a local conservation officer my uncle was told that a mountain lion averages a deer...

    Factory Shells Leaking Buffering

Candle wax. Remember that the old paper shot gun shells had a paraffin coating. Well, maybe some of you younger guys never saw or used paper shot gun shells. Federal made them for skeet and trap shooters for many years as a less expensive alternative to the old Winchester and Remington...

    Douglas barrels

These are the last two 100-yard targets from my 300 WSM with a Douglas barrel. Visually the barrel looked very good. As PJGunner noted above, this barrel was ordered by my gunsmith. He (my gunsmith) says he has had good luck with Douglas barrels.

What is "reasonable" accuracy for a hunting rifle?

Cowboy, To provide some encouragement for you, I went digging into my records to try to find some examples of how much difference in accuracy can be between various factory loads. Below are the first four 100-yard targets shot with 4 different factory loads from my first 7mm Rem Mag. The...

What is "reasonable" accuracy for a hunting rifle?

Cowboy, There is some good advice listed above. I have had two (currently one) 7mm Rem Mags. Both were LH Winchester Model 70's with the CRF. I will say that there is some factory ammo that they absolutely hate. In particular, the Federal cartridge loaded with 160 gr. Partition. However, I...

    To anneal or not?

I fully agree with TackDriver284 and Jimbires above. I started rifle reloading about 50 years ago and never annealed brass until about 2 years ago. Once I did, I wish I had started before. Annealing helps with consistent shoulder bumps and seating pressure (neck tension). Since I have a...

    Problems

When I worked in a group that had its own tech support person, he told me to be sure to do always two things: 1. Always log out from any site that you use, 2. Reboot your computer every day. He said the reasons were that, "tech talk, tech talk, tech talk, and it clears the registers". I...
