Just a point of clarification, in case anyone is confused by my initial post. When we say "suicide survivor" or "survivors of suicide," we are referring to the families, friends, etc. of someone who has taken their own life. We use the term "suicide attempt survivor" to refer to someone who...
Hey, folks. I know we are all anxious and ready to get the fall season started, with all of the good things that come with it. But please allow me a few minutes of your time for something very serious first.
If you don't already know, September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Certainly...
Without going to the trouble of cutting brass, I decided to use my borescope to take a peek inside the 30-06 cases that had been loaded with 4166. I believe that these were loaded back around 2016 or 2017.
For a reference data point, I pulled another case that had been loaded probably longer...
It's worse than that. The rusted lids were on other cans of powder, not the 4166 (it has plastic lids). Those escaping fumes were attacking nearby cans. Crazy.
But, hey...it meets the NATO standard. They'd better hope that NATO burned up all the ammo that was loaded with that crap before it...
I'm certain that they are aware of the root cause, but they are using that weak excuse as their escape hatch. A recall would have been the correct response, but then they have to admit there's a problem, and that opens them up to other exposure. So they pretend it's not a problem at all.
Probably explains this case failure I had a few months back. I had chalked it up to bad brass, but now I believe that the 4166 had corroded it and/or caused overpressure.
Well, no love from Hodgdon. I called them this morning, and they refused to own their bad product. The guy fed me a line about it being tested to "the 10-year NATO standard" for shelf life, blah, blah, blah. No replacement offered. So I waited until this afternoon and submitted an email thru...
Well, I have to take a mea culpa on this one. Turns out that both of my cans of 4166 have spoiled. It was the last that I had of that powder, which had given me some very good results. I'm sad to lose it. I have one opened can of 4451, but it appears to be ok for right now. I will definitely be...
You didn't include them, but don't overlook the Hornady SST and Sierra TGK. I had fine results with the 129gr SST last fall from my 6.5 CM. And they are very accurate (.3") in my rifle.
I'm so very sorry to hear the news. May God bless and comfort each and every member of your family, especially your daughter and SIL. Prayers for you all.
