25 06 is the only rifle that I hunt with anymore. I load 120 grain partitions, and it just plain works. No more magnums, as my back can't take the recoil anymore. Elk and moose don't know the difference. Deer is bang flop.
I had RCBS make me neck sizer dies for all of my rifles. Only time that the full length dies are used are with new brass or when I start to get a stiff bolt closure. I also anneal every 3 to 5 firings. My brass lasts for years, due to no unnecessary case stretching. I also trim to .005 below...
I have taken truck loads of deer with the 117 grain Hornady at extreme ranges. Whoever said that they will not stabilize should give their head a shake. They work. For elk, a 120 grain Speer hotcore will totally ruin their day. The 25 06 is really underestimated. It doesn't kick the crap out of...
I will be using the Sako 75 25 06 on everything with the Nosler partition. Elk and moose fall over real quick, and it don't drop your drawers down around your ankles when you send it.
Mine prefers the 140 grain Hornady boat tail with a stout load of Reloader 22. IMR 7828 also gives more than acceptable results. Velocity is much higher with the 7828 as well.
I load WLRM primers in everything. The velocity spread is 9 fps, and they work great. I have been using the magnums in the standard cases for a lot of years. Too much of a difference in velocity spread with the standard primers.
