What to do (Savage M25 17 Hornet)

So last January I got a Savage M25 walking varminter in 17 Hornet. I love it, its light, slim, points well, simple and it absolutely drives nails with any bullet and powder I have tried. I took a bunch of jack rabbits last year with it with very very few misses. One problem......it doesn't...

    Sons first jack rabbit

Well these CA jackrabbits are a little harder than I imagined, a few times I thought to myself "calling coyotes is easier than this". These suckers just don't stop, the shots are FAR. We had an awesome evening, went with my dad and 9 1/2 year old son. Savage M25 in 17 Hornet, 15.5grn NTX with...

    Primer question

So I am loading for 17 Hornet. First trip to the range was awesome, W296 with 15.5 NTX lead free and 25grn Vmax with H322 shot 1/3 and 1/2 inch. I am using CCI small rifle primers. My question is this. With a 25grn Vmax and 12.1 of H322 the pressure Hodgdon gives is 30,600..... which is lower...

Got my Savage M25 17 Hornet (range report)

I got my M25 yesterday in 17 Hornet. The rifle was made in September of this year. I was very happy with the rifles fit and finish. The medium contour (call it medium/heavy) barrel is nicely free floated and the stock is much better than the plastic stocks on the Axis. I own an Axis and this...

    Ordered a M25 walking varminter

Well some 17 hornets came back in stock and I snagged a walking varminter. The CZ is nice and more than likely the superior rifle but at a couple hundred bucks more it just wasn't what I wanted in this rifle. My primary calling rifle is a Savage 10 in 22-250 with a Boyds laminate stock so I...

My Savage Axis 223 with Bluedot

I did some experimenting last year with my Ruger American ranch and Bluedot and was pretty happy. 11.0 of Bluedot under a 35 grain nosler ballistic tip shot 2650fps and an inch at 100 yards. Today I took out my Axis and tried the same loads. They shot VERY well, they did half inch and I am...

    17 Hornet, who has one?

Last year I got a couple Savage 93's, a heavy barrel wood stock in 17hmr and the sporter barrel synthetic in 22WMR. I love both of them but I am thinking of off loading the 17 to a friend in favor of a 17 hornet. I would like to get a little more whollop out of the 17 caliber. I want this for...

Any love for the 22 WMR?

Last winter I picked up a Savage 93 F just to try out the 22 WMR. I have been totally impressed with the little rimfire. We use it for blasting water bottles and jack rabbit hunting now and then. It packs quite a whollop. I shoot the CCI 30grn TNT lead frees and chrono'd them at 2,130fps out...

    Savage M25 walking varminter

Anyone have one of these? Been looking at them for years and always keep coming back to them. I would probably do 17 or 22 Hornet. Opinions?

    Quick help, Remington 78 sportsman

Anyone ever have one? My local shop has one in 223 for 289. Best I can find out they are a 700 ADL in a birch stock and a little less time spent on the bluing. I don't really need another 223 but the price seems good for a wood and steel rifle with a little 4-12 bushnell on it. Let me know...

    Hodgdon BLC-2 for 223 and 22-250

Anyone use this powder in those cartridges? I was doing an order today and wanted to get a few pounds to make the Hazmat worth it. I like trying different powders so I picked this up, never used it before. I was thinking of trying it in 223 and 22-250.

Vanguard S2 in 25-06 with 75grn Vmax (range day)

Had a good day at the range today. Was trying some 75 grain Vmax's in my Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 25-06 Remington. I have really grown to love this rifle. It shoots a ton of stuff right into 3/4 to 1 inch, 115grn NBT, 100grn Sierra gameking, 85grn NBT, 100grn Speer hotcor........but it always...

    Sons first dove hunt

My dad and I got my son out for his first dove hunt yesterday evening. We didn't have much time for scouting and it has been HOT but we still saw a pretty good number of birds. Hunted the same general area I hunted with my dad. He ended up getting about 5 or 6 shots (in .410 range) and got...

Ruger ranch with NBT lead free

I have been doing some testing with 35grn NBT lead free in my ranch. I am in CA and we are lead free so my calling rifles need to be lead free. Last year I settled on 38.0 of Varget with a 40grn and a 35grn with 40.0 of CFE223 for my Savage 22-250, both loads shot about 3/4 inch. My rifle...

    New here

Good morning all, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Brian, I started reloading for handguns around 1996 with my dad when I was a teenager. I have been loading on my own now for about 10 years now after getting back into it, rifle and handgun. I load for 223, 22-250, 243, 25-06, 9mm...
