Accubond vs. Ballistic Tip @ 308 win Velocities...

I shoot a Remington Model 7 18.5" barrel. My shots on deer will be well under 100 yards. The only deer I took with it so far was a 30 yard broadside shot with the 165gr BT. Shot hit above the shoulder the deer spun around once and fell. The top of the heart and both lungs were destroyed...

New 300 Savage Owner Needs Load Advice

How do you think the Accubond performs in the Savage? I'm looking at an impact velocity of around 2500, which seems ideal in my mind. I was afraid I'd have to seat them deep. Anyone know if the BT is shorter? Doesn't it have a thinner jacket at the base?

New 300 Savage Owner Needs Load Advice

I just came into a Savage 99 from a family member and I'm looking for a place to start with handloads. It's iron sights only, not drilled and tapped and I plan to keep it that way. It'll be used for deer hunting and I can't imagine a shot much over 100 yards. I have the following bullets on...

    Burris Fullfield loose turret screws?

I have a new Fullfield II 2-7. When I was trying to zero in today I thought the point of impact shifted a couple times, although I'm not unconvinced that the shooter wasn't to blame. When I was adjusting the turrets I noticed that the turret screws have just a little bit of wiggle to them...

    Ever had a powder that . . .

For me it was RL15 in the 35 Whelen. It groups good, but velocity is disapointing. I start seeing preassure signs at 56.5 gr. I was thinking of trying Varget in my 308. But W748 and AA2520 both shoot well. If I had to pick favorites it would be those two. W748 works well for me in 223, 308...

Anyone have field experience with the 170gr PT RN?

I was wondering if anyone has had any field experience with the 170gr PT in a 30-30. I've heard elsewhere that they don't expand well at 30-30 velocities.

Partitions and whitetails..give me your feedback

I'm trying to decide between the Accubond and Partition myself. I'll be working up a load for my .308 18.5 inch barreled Rem M7. It's nice to carry in the thick areas I hunt where shots are close. My last deer dropped instantly. I was using the 165 BT and the shot was 30 yards. There's...

    2007 Wishlist.

I'll second that. How 'bout a return of the 150gr and 170gr .308 solid base for us 30-30 shooters? Or even better, make them a bonded bullet.

150gr AB out of 24" 308 win--need loads and velocities

I shoot that same gun. I've never tried 150s. I've tried the 165 gr Speer psp, psp bt, Hornady interlock bt, and Nosler BT. I've tried W748 and AA2520. Every load shoots about 1.25". I plan to make sure the barrel is free floated and try some other combinations. I use it as a woods gun and...

    Low 35 Whelen Velocity?

My suspicion is that I either got a slow lot of RL15 or perhaps the manufacturer changed the burn rate a bit. Before I try another lot of the same I might try a load with my AA2520 that I have on hand. I've had pretty good success with it in other calibers. But I can't complain about the...

    Low 35 Whelen Velocity?

Thanks! A bit pricey at $150 but it's definately on my "wish list"

    Low 35 Whelen Velocity?

I should have included barrel length. My barrel is 23" long. Temp was about 45 degrees F. But the 200 gr factory ammo was close to published velocity. I'm thinking a different powder may be in order. Possible suitable powders I have on hand at the moment are W748, IMR4895 and AA2520. Head...

    Low 35 Whelen Velocity?

Last year I built a 35 whelen and had only enough time before season to work up a couple loads for it. I'm using the 225 gr pt and 225 gr bt over 56.5 gr RL15 Remington cases and Fed 210M primers. Both shoot about .8" at 100 yards. bullets are seated to a COAL 3.3 and 3.35". This year I...
