Welcome aboard. Your 280 will serve you well for about any game you will hunt in NA. BlkRam was spot on in the advice he gave. You can find data for 175 grain pills, but the 160 will serve you very well. I reviewed my data logs on three 280s I've owned and shot, and found I have never loaded...
Yeah, but you didn't tell about Pete coming into the reloading room with welding hood and asbestos gloves implying that this was a real challenge!:ROFLMAO::devilish:
Swapped out winter tires on the F150 today. Woke up to about three inches of snow this past Monday, and by 3:30 in the afternoon it was all gone. Sure acting like spring.
Good that the man was armed and managed to get off a shot. I've been charged twice by grizzlies. Both were bluff charges, but things did happen quickly. I can say this--it is a terrifying few moments.
I like Marlin lever rifles, but I love Winchester Model 94s. I owned one Savage Model 99 chambered in 38-55. I should never have allowed that one to slip from my hands, but I did. I've owned several BLRs, all chambered in 358 Win. They were each a joy to carry and a delight to shoot...
Don't really know whether my rimmed cartridges actually count, but I've owned two .307's and four .356's. I gave the two 307's to younger shooters. I gave BlkRam one of the 356. I've used the .356 to take moose, elk, mule deer, whitetail, black bear, and grizzly. Yeah, a Model 94 chambered...
I've used a 7mm RM for almost as long as I've lived in Canada. It has accounted for moose, elk, mule deer, whitetail, and quite a variety of smaller "critters" (targets of opportunity). Yeah, it's favourite (Canadian spelling:giggle:).
Oh, yeah, the bears are up. The boars are eating the buds off the young trees and finding skunk cabbage in the swampy areas. This was the second young moose I've seen this spring. Mama likely ran him off and he doesn't know that he'll do better out in the bush. He was in good shape--no ticks...
A young bull visited the neighbourhood this afternoon. I never get tired of the critters wandering through the area. My neighbour told me that I had a couple of mule deer bucks in the yard at two this morning. I wasn't up at that time, though I did get up at four.
I've acquired a few metric cartridges, and they have served me well. 7X57, 8X68S, 9.3X64. Perhaps I should add a couple of others that aren't true metric, but cartridges that originated outside of the continenal US--280 Ross and 358 Norma Magnum, both of which I've enjoyed greatly.
I have owned several rifles chambered in 280 Rem and a couple chambered in 35 Whelen. I've taken a variety of game here in BC with the two cartridges. They work well for me. I'd probably lean toward the 280 just because of a longer association with the cartridge. I do own a 30-06...
I lean heavily toward the 358 Win and the 338 Federal. I have taken black bear, moose, elk, and bison with the 358 Win. I've owned four rifles chambered in this cartridge, and still own one. I've only acquired one 338 Federal. That rifle has accounted for moose. It doesn't get out as much s...
