That is about twice the exit wound I get using a 75 grain BTHP from my 556 NATO AR15.
Is your 22-250 a 1-14 twist?
Where would you start, and what powder for a 22-250 Improved?
I called the pro shop phone number and asked if they were available and was told that the bonded solid base 224 would be available as a standard component in 2013. They have sold them in the past in 100 round plastic packages.
I think this is the bullet Winchester uses in their ZQ3313 ammo...
I live in Bend. Where can I purchase some of the new bonded solid base .224 caliber bullets?
Also, do you have any loading data on line for either the 60 grain partition or the BSB that is loaded to NATO chamber pressure?
I also have a 22-250 Ackley Improved that Frank Glenn built that Id...
Pop,
Bullet performance is alot more important to me than BC.
The modest ballistic coefficient of the North Forks and lead tip Nosler Partitions have never bothered me. As you know, 200 yards is a long shot on big game in Africa.
I shot an impala w my 450 at about 200 yards hitting...
Kim,
Since you might encounter your game "from any angle" I would deffinately recommend the partition, esp the 250 grain even if you have a bit lower velocity.
the partitions always have less frontal area than an accbond and will there fore have more penetration.
Still very destructive on a...
Desert Fox,
You are being too modest. Nine one shot kills????? Wish I could say that!
As you know most PH's are a pretty traditional group of hunters, but the younger ones have grown up w premium bullets that are usually used by American hunters, and know that the old method of loading a...
Yes, its a .223 Remington in an Accuracy Speaks modified AR-15.
I had used 4895 with the original 60 grain solid base many years ago and got 3,100 fps.
Andy
D Fox,
Here is a picture of 450 and 400 grain North Fork bonded solid base from buffalo at 2550 and 2750 fps. 82 caliber and 90% + weight retention.
The TSX blows off front end at about 2600 fps in 375 and about 2300 fps in 458.
I did recover the two NF's because they were bulging...
Can anyone give me their favorite loads for this bullet?
With 69 and 75 grain BTHP's I have found RL15 is most accurate in my rifle but not necessarily the highest velocity.
Advice appreciated.
Andy
DFox, Great shooting!
The problem w the X and TSX is that they do loose their X petals above about 2900 fps impact velocity in the small-medium bores, and much lower velocity in the big bores.
I would guess your TSX hit your big deer at around 2,900 fps?
Here is apicture of a 400, 450 and...
I am using RL-25 in 26 inch barrel (stainless) on pre 64 action. 67 grains gives me 3085 fps with both the 160 grain Acubond and North Fork HP. 68 grains gives me a bit over 3,100 fps. I have standardized on the 67 grain load. Probably not as accurate as RL-22 but a bit more velocity.
Andy
PS, I am getting 2360 fps at 45 degrees F with 96 grains RL-15. This is similar to what I would get with other (conventional) 500 grain bullets. About all the recoil I can handle.
I would still like to hear from Nosler about how to secure the bullet in the case. Do I seat it deeper?
This...
I recently purchased a box of your new 500 grain .458 FN solids for use in my 450 Dakota.
In my barrel they engage the rifling at 3.876 which is too long to fit in the magazine.
I have to back off over 0.090 to 3.785 for a reliable magazine box fit.
They cycle through the action just...
Aggiedog,
I think the FS is the perfected Barnes X.
It solves the Barnes major problem which is the low density of copper making them so long, unstable, and take up too much powder space.
I think the FS has a reputation of keeping the front of the expanded X petals intact much more so than...
Joe,
thanks very much.
I had tried H4831 but nothing slower. It actually had less velocity at higher pressure than IM$ 4831. Weird but thats how it seemed.
Appriciate your help.
Andy
Nosler has so many different bullet types that it would be impossible to print one maximum load for bullets as different as a Fail Safe, PArtition, and Accubond.
I look at the velocity level that ispublished and then try to reach it with the powder indicated. You may not make it with a Fail...
A 75 grain .224 that will fit in a semi auto magazine.
335 grain .416 (Its an unusual bullet weight but it has a similar SD as a 270 grain .375).
450 grain .458 (Similar SD as 300 grain .375).
Andy
I do not have the current nosler reloading manual with 9.3 x 62mm data in it.
Can someone from Bend please tell me what the fastest powder was for the 286 grain PT and also the most accurate?
I see the nosler custom ammo is going 2430 fps which is smoking for this old war horse.
It's fast...
