That looks good to me. I've found the same with RL23. I use it for pretty much everything requiring a slower powder (.260, .270, .280, 300 WM) with very good results.
My .300 load is 180 AB's over 75.5 gr RL23 at only 100-ish fps faster than yours.
Scotty, the T3x already has a metal bolt shroud, but they are black on the SS rifles.
I need to get another long action bolt stop. I stole the one from my .300 so I could run a longer COAL in my .260.
Scotty, I don't want to get in the way of a good deal on powder but Bradford (McKean county) has to be three hours or so from 81. Bradford County is much closer.
Bradford is home to Zippo lighters, Case knives, and what seems to be the coldest temps in PA. I'm not sure I can remember seeing a...
I believe you said you were under 2900 fps with it. I've definitely seen the accuracy come together with a little more pressure with Reloader 22 (and others but definitely 22). How close to 75-76 grains did you get?
I load for a couple of .300's and Reloader 22 has always easily pushed 180's beyond 3000 fps. I've since switched to 23 but 22 and 23 have been nearly identical for me in the .300. That is not true of other cartridges.
Here's what I did:
Start with the scope zeroed where you want it and the turret set to zero.
Here's the layout of the parts I "made".
Now pull the turret off and slide the bushing over the post in the turret.
This bushing is simply a piece of 3/8 ID poly tube cut to .475" and sliced to...
I'll post some pics (hopefully tomorrow). I used a punch set to make washers that fit over the post inside the turret knob but not inside of the turret body. Layering the correct number of washers/shims makes a zero stop. There is some trial and error involved in getting it set. It is critical...
I have a 12x and a 3-9. A second 3-9 is on the way to me. I've made zero stops for both. It does have to be done a bit differently on the HD (3-9) turrets.
I'm very impressed by the mechanics of these scopes. The glass on 3-9's surprised me as well. I was not expecting it to perform at the...
I think Bushnell Legend Ultra HD's are some of the best in the under $300 category. I'm not sure if they're still making them but the 10x42's are available on amazon for $250. I only have experience with the 8x42's but it is really pretty impressive glass for the price tag.
I'm not saying not...
I was going to say that I had never fired a 30-30 either but I did once work up some loads for a friend's Contender. I shot a couple of rounds out of it. I haven't shot one in a Marlin or Winchester lever gun. I've shot a number of 32 Specials. They filled the 30-30 niche within my family and...
I think that you will find that, during your plumbing experience, you were heating the copper not the solder. The solder is melted primarily by the heat of the copper. If you drip molten solder onto cold copper it is not going to bond. I would have no expectations of molten lead bonding to the...
I've got a 12x and really like it. One thing I would mention is the reticle/adjustment. I would definitely suggest going with a Mil scope with the MilQuad reticle. That reticle is fantastic. The scope linked to above is the MOA version. Mils are far nicer to work with. I say that coming from...
No, I don't have a microscope currently at my disposal. I've aged more fish scales by pressing slides and viewing through a microscope than I care to remember. I don't think I'll be investing in a scope to do a similar thing with deer. I imagine you need a way to thinly slice the tooth as well...
Here are side by side close ups of the teeth of the above buck and the 2.5 year old buck posted earlier. From front to back.

I'm at 2.5 for Pat's and 3.5 for mine.
Here is the deer that goes with the last jaw I posted:
I can see how the jaw could be read as a 2.5 yr old but I can't put that face and body on one... good dental care? In person, this jaw definitely shows more wear than the 2.5 yr old buck I posted...
That sounds excellent. I might have to give that a try. I think I even have a little bourbon in the cabinet which I've been neglecting since discovering Scotch.
I thought this was a slam dunk 2.5 yr old and it looks as though most concur.
Here's the deer (sorry for the pic):
The next jaw will be coming up soon. Please, if anyone else has some, I'd like to see some more posted up here.
Thanks, guys.
The snack sticks went into the smoker on Sunday.

These came out ok, but are a little too salty. I'll have to adjust the recipe a little before I do another batch.
