Unreal... Hornady and Vortex team up to make a bullet cam

Jeez guys... Hmmm, what day is it anyway???

    Custom 280 AI range report.

Wow! Very nice! I still have a box of 150 grn ABLR, and haven't tried them yet. Might be worth a look!

Load Dev for custom LR 280 AI

Easily. that's about my min/max with the 168 grain bullets and RL26. I just barely hit pressure at 60.5 grains RL26 and 168 grain Berger VLD. For me, 24" barrel, 168 grain Berger VLD, Nosler brass, Fed 215 primers. Pressure is at 2950 fps using 60.5 grains RL26. hope this helps, good luck!

    Loading for the 280 Ackley...

Totally agree, I'd have the smith look at it. Even if you can get the 160 grn AB to shoot well, you'd be somewhat boxed in with the bullets you might want to try in the future. Plus, it might not be safe with factory ammo.

    Western Oregon Cow

Thanks guys! Yeah, the 280ai is a sweetheart. Not that it's magic, and in practical hunting terms really doesn't do anything a 30-06 wont do. But it has several small attributes that when added together make it a sweet little cartrige. Should be getting the meat back from the...

    Western Oregon Cow

I was thinking exactly that when I was cleaning her. The wound looked exactly like the last buck I took with an Accubond.

    Western Oregon Cow

Thanks guys! This is my first animal taken with a mono. It the LRX went cleanly through, and the cow went about 20 yards from where I shot her. I had a classic broadside shot, and put it through the lungs. I've taken a few deer with Accubonds, and I tend to get a similar pass through shots...

    Western Oregon Cow

Took this cow the last week of February. Spotted the herd at about 800 yards, well outside my comfort zone. No matter, it was an easy stalk down and around a hill. I reacquired the herd at about 400 yards, ranged them, and dialed up my scope. I could have ended it right there, but the herd...

    Monolithic Bullets

I've been working with mono's a bit more lately because I think the California disease will soon spread to Oregon. But I do like PT very much. AB's have also worked very well for me. But my experience with Barns so far has be excellent! Haven't tried the e-tip yet.

    Monolithic Bullets

I took a cow elk at 185 yards with a 7mm 168 grain LRX. Bullet cleanly passed through her, and she went about 20 yards and fell over dead. Shot through the lungs, one shot. this was with a 280ai, with a MV of 2900 fps.

    Best reloading dies

I use mostly RCBS. I have one set of Redding Competition dies, and they are very nice. One thing about the Redding comp die sets. Redding needs to fire the designer of the box they come in! Once you set-up the die, they won't fit in that box again. lame....

    .2800AI w/ E-tips

I've been following your success with that 280ai of yours. I think you could stuff rocks down that barrel and still get .300" groups.

    .2800AI w/ E-tips

I'm shooting the 168 grain Barns LRX out of my 280ai. It has a 1:8 twist though, which you'd need. But I'm at 2900 fps with RL26 @24" barrel. I think the 145 grain LRX would be another good option. I live in Oregon, which I think is on it's way to mono-only before too long.

    220 grain BT for blackout

I'd be kind of fun to play with in my 308 win. Not sure really what you'd gain, but it'd sure be a good bush whacking bullet. Wonder why the boat tail though? Clearly BC isn't going to be what you're looking for in a bullet like that.

    Nice article on case families

Very nice. I'm familiar with these families, but I wonder who has a new case design? Does the 375 Ruger have a parent cartridge? Or was that a clean sheet design?

My baby just came in today !

I'd have a hard time feeding that thing just standard hunting bullets. Maybe the 200 grain AB, but I wouldn't want to go lighter. And why there is no love for the 210 ABLR, I just can't understand, especially on this forum. But otherwise probably the 210/215 grain Berger. That is a sweet rig!

    280AI powder

I've played with the 168 grain Berger VLD and RL26. I hit pressure up around 2950 fps (24" barrel), but 2925 is fine. 2925 is with 60.0 grains RL26, seated fairly long. Nosler brass, and Fed 215 primers.

New 300 Win Mag is coming

My 300 winnie is just a factory Ruger M77 with a really tight magazine box. So I'm pretty much limited to 3.34" OAL. But I really like the 200 grain Partitions, they are surprisingly accurate for moderate ranges. I think your powder selection is great. H4831 is pretty accurate with the 200...

    Nosler Brass

You can just load it. I wouldn't use virgin brass when taking measurements for ES or SD. I will typically use virgin brass only for practice. Not load development. But that's just my own personal voodoo.

    Nosler 308 brass/soft primer pockets?

I typically find Nosler brass to have very tight primer pockets when they are new. I'm on firing #5 with my latest batch of 280ai, and even with some of those having been shot at high pressure (some overpressure slightly), they are still just fine.
