    To all blacktail hunters

Lures, bleats, grunts and rattling all work. Just don't expect it to work like it does on TV for whitetails. Whitetails are tenacious during the rut and will travel further and search harder than any other deer. Scents and bleats work better on Blacktails, but don't leave out rattling. I...

243 NEF Handi Rifle and Berger 95 VLDs

It seems that the .243 Win will digest a variety of powders with good results. I have much preferred either 7828ssc or R-19. Any of the 4350's or slower seem to have worked best for me. I would start with R-19 and either the 90 grn Speer or 90-95 grn Ballistic Tip. 7828ssc with either the...

    What is happening?????

Good possibility on the screw torque issue. I would not clean the barrel for at least 20 shots or so. I suspect that the clean barrel added to the inconsistencies. All of my rifles like a little copper and powder fouling left in the barrel. This fills in the micro-voids and allows the bullet...

    Big Buck

Farm animals do not impress me! It's just the beginning of the end to hunting "wildlife."

    working up new loads

This can turn your hair gray, if it is not already. Eliminate as many variables as you can to start with. I load three each in charge intervals of .05grn increments. I usually start the bullet at .030" off the lands, unless it is a monolithic, then I use .100". I have an idea of what...

    Ruger m77 barrel problem?

What type of cleaning rod are you using? That almost sounds like a case of a multi-piece or stainless rod touching the barrel when cleaning. Just a thought.

    25-06 ??

Don't leave out IMR7828ssc or Norma MRP-2, RL-25 when loading 115's or heavier. 7828 and 115 Ballistic Tip's tuned my very short-throated tang-safety Ruger from just acceptable to stellar as far as groups are concerned. If I had more time to spend at the bench with this gun, or a different...

CT Nosler bullets with Lubalox coating

Winchester has always had some sort of gimmick coating on their bullets. Does anyone remember Lubaloy? They BST are just NBT's with a cool looking Darth Vader coating. I have seen zero difference in fouling effects between the NBT and BST. They sure kill deer quite dead.

    7mm-08 140gr. Partition

The 7-08 with 140 NPT is today what the 30-06 with 165 Hornady's was yesterday. You have one of the finest all-around under-rated and under- apreciated big-game cartridges available. It's soft on the shoulder as well. Certainly, the 7-08 will never reach the popularity of the 30-06, but it...

270WSM 150gr Ballistic Tip Load Recommendation

I set my 140gr Accubond load in my 270WSM at 2.860" due to the magazine length. That puts them .088" off the lands in this particular rifle, and the only way I could improve on the accuracy is to have a better marksman shoot the groups.

270 WSM is messing with my head

There are also a lot of variables that can affect chronograph readings. You need to buy some factory ammo and compare velocity readings to your handloads at the same time. All the WSM factory ammo is loaded to the max, so what ever it generates in your rifle will give you a target velocity...

    H-4831sc, The Zero Use Powder

Well, no real surprizes today at the range, but H-4831 wasn't the total loser for me like in the past. The IMR7828ssc with the 90 grain Nosler E-Tip was the winner in a class by itself. Once we realized this was going to be the load to use, three of us each shot three shots at the same target...

    H-4831sc, The Zero Use Powder

It's funny how over the years loading countless different cartridges in many different rifles that I have never gained acceptable end results with H-4831 or the short-cut version. This is supposed to be the "go to" powder-or darn close to it- for just about any bottle-necked cartridge one could...

What's your go to 280 Rem bullet/powder combo?

My go to load for the 280 is 56.0gr of IMR4831 with the 145grn Speer Hot-Cor or BTSP. A close second is 55.0gr IMR4831 with the 140grn Ballistic Tip. H4831 was a poor perfomer in both velocity and accuracy. R-22 is very popular in the 280 Rem. 44gr of IMR4064 with a 150grn Sierra is a known...

    Let's Take A Breath!!!!

Some would love to blame the WSM's for the closure of the New Haven plant. This has been discussed in detail way too many times. With or without the introduction of new cartridges, USRAC would have shut down the New Haven plant. Remeber why they couldn't just start building M70's in SC...

    Still Confused About Bore Cleaning?

Hardpan, if you only use a bore snake and Hoppes, then you are shooting with a fouled barrel even after cleaning.

    25-06 and RL -15

Don't leave IMR7828ssc off the list. The 4350's and 4831's were standby powders for years in the 25-06. They still work very well, but the "newer" slower powders have made some cartridges better than ever, the 25-06 being one such cartridge.

    Still Confused About Bore Cleaning?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by harm accuracy, but all of my factory barreled rifles shoot considerably larger groups while shiny-clean and no copper fouling inside. I've seen a lot of people struggle with accuracy out at the range by spending more time cleaning and less time shooting...
