The downside to my last trip to the range

I had the exact same thing happen last year with my 300 WBY.I called Winchester expecting to have to explain what happened, my loads, sending samples, etc. First thing the guy asked was what was the lot #. I told him and he told me how to package them, what to write on the box, and to leave them...

    M1917 project

I love my Remington 1917. It's a vintage sporter with schnabel stock. The recoil pad is old and I traced it to the 1930's. Original barrel cut to 22" , ears ground off, stripper clip slot gone, etc.,all done very professionally. Finish is ok as I had to take some surface rust off but thats...

    If H4350 doesn't work...

I just load my 30.06 for accuracy and with the powders I have on hand, accuracy comes without max charges. It loves 180 gr Sierra Spitzer B.T.'s. While it will go sub-moa with 58 grains of RL 19 or H 4831SC it does best with 56.5 gr H4831SC (into the .3"s) and 56 gr RL 19 (best groups of .082"...

    Load change with free float

Thanks for your advice guys. I floated my 30.06 before doing any work up and it's a tack driver. My .300 WBY is too but I've worked up so many loads I was hesitant. I had the stock off working on the trigger and the thought crossed my mind but I decided not too as I discovered my recently...

    Load change with free float

For you folks that had loads worked up prior to free floating, did the loads need to be re-worked after free floating or did they stay just as tight grouping?

    Timney Trigger

The Mark V factory trigger is really an excellent trigger. The factory spring usually prevents adjusting below 3 lbs or so. With an after market spring or by clipping a coil, coil and a half off the factory one you can get almost unlimited adjustment for a crisp, creep free trigger.

    MV & POI Differences ?

You rock with the best my friend! Along with Hendrix, Sabbath, Cream......, oh wait this is about reloading. Thats only one of my turn tables, the one in need of repair. I spin the turntable by hand, a little push and it spins the right speed, stop it with a finger to put the next brass on. It...

    MV & POI Differences ?

I made a little platform which fits on the LP stem of my old turn table. A single brass sits on it, perfectly in the middle, and I spin it while holding a torch on the neck. 10 seconds, pick up the brass by its base, dip the neck in a container of water, prop it neck down on a towel and repeat...

    Flash hole cerntering

I get one once in a while and I always set them aside. Then one time I got a lot in a bunch of LC53 brass I had. I had accumulated 15 so I loaded them up and all 5 groups were in the .6 to .8 range. The gun will do much better than that at times but I couldn't complain!

    Shortcut (SC) powder question

I've got sub-moa loads I've worked up with various bullets in .300 WBY and 30.06 using H4831 that I have loaded with H4831SC using the same charge weight and they have performed just as well. I use whats available. Good luck and God Bless! Bob

    Brass Life

I have brass for my .300 WBY I have shot 12 times and they don't show any negative signs. The primer pockets were fine for the last loading. This is Weatherby (Norma) brand and I do anneal after 4 firings. I am also lucky in that I have a tight chamber and my sizing die very closely matches it...

Any military rifle shooters out there?

Thanks Dr.Mike. I was amazed it shot that well without even being cleaned. That's why I "spruced it up" more as it showed some potential. My jaw hit the floor when it started printing sub half inch groups!

Any military rifle shooters out there?

Not long ago I got a sporterized 1917 Enfield 30.06 for $35.00. It hadn't been shot since the 1960's or early 70's and hadn't been cleaned since well before that. I shot 2 groups before doing anything to it with the iron sights and they were 1.4" and 1.7"(100 yards) I bedded it, free floated it...

    30-06

Got my first 30.06,a "project gun" sporterized 1917 Enfield a guy got when his dad died in the 80's. He never shot it and his dad hadn't since the 60's or early 70's. It's kinda beat up. He sold it to me for $35.00. I floated the barrel, bedded the recoil lug and the rest of the action. I got a...

    Reloading Components Availability updates

Powder Valley has Tula Large Rifle Magnum primers in stock. I have no experience with Russian made primers and have no knowledge of their consistency in making accurate, repeatable loads. Third Generation has Federal 210's in stock. If T.G. has it in stock it ships quick. My powder took 4 days...

    Reloading Components Availability updates

Earlier today I bought some IMR7828, H4831, and RL19 at Third Generation. They still have some in stock as well as Alliant Power Pro 4000-MR, IMR 3031,4227,4831 and Winchester760. They probably have some others too. Hope that helps ease someones reloading woes. Also, I ordered it today and it...
