Load change with free float

For you folks that had loads worked up prior to free floating, did the loads need to be re-worked after free floating or did they stay just as tight grouping?

There are a lot of variables to look at. One is barrel contour, if you have a light weight sporter barrel it may need some pressure or support to keep it from whipping. Heavier barrels #2 and above depending on caliber seems to benefit from free floating which allows the barrel to resonate freely. My barrels are #2 contour or larger #3 which seem to like being floated. It's something you have to experiment with in your particular rifle.

The two rifles that I have had free floated where still at the same MOA but then I changed the load and got a better MOA after. I actually changed powders as well :).

Thanks for your advice guys. I floated my 30.06 before doing any work up and it's a tack driver. My .300 WBY is too but I've worked up so many loads I was hesitant. I had the stock off working on the trigger and the thought crossed my mind but I decided not too as I discovered my recently developed flier problem was probably from my recently discovered copper problem. I had been cleaning with BTE every 30 rounds or so and thought I was doing well. Lo and behold I have a very rough barrel and a little copper stayed in ,enough to eventually cause problems. I went to the range yesterday, all sub-moa, best .270", any shots that were slightly off were called by me and not the gun.God Bless and good shooting!
