I've used these in a 264 WM on whitetails but wondered about their performance in the 6.5x55 or the 260 Rem. Anyone tried them yet?

I've got some loaded up and set aside for testing in my 260 as soon as the weather clears a little here (It was -27 this morning and snowing). I have no doubt that they will work very well on deer size game. You should generate 2600 to 2700 fps from the cartridge. With a minimum impact speed of 1800 fps for optimum performance, that translates into a long reach for the 6.5 X 55.

The 130gr AB is my bullet of choice out of the .260. Definately has to be one of the finest deer rounds available - can't speak for their performance on deer, however they work great on elk

Let us know how they end up working for you -

Mike, if it's that cold there wouldn't that help your barrel cool faster between groups?

Oh, these temps can cool the barrel very nicely. The problem is that it cools my solvents so that cleaning gets to be rather interesting. When I pop the top on a bottle of water and watch it crystallize before I can even take a sip, it takes some of the pleasure out of the experience.

Where in Missouri are you? I have a daughter in Trenton.

killed a cow elk last fall with the 6.5x55 and 130 AccuBond worked well, 175 yds, broke both shoulders under the off side hide nice mushroom, 60% weight retained

I have used the 130 AB in my 264 win mag at 3350 fps muzzle velocity to take 5 deer from 80 to 250 yards the past two seasons and they work very well. I have not tried them in my 6.5X55 Swede and I really don't intend to because the 120 ballistic tip at 3000 fps is like a death ray on deer. BANG FLOP. They shoot in little bitty groups and they are MUCH cheaper than the Accubonds. If I was to go after larger game like elk with my 6.5X55 then the 130 or 140 AB or Partition would be my choice. After killing well over 200 whitetail deer I like a lighter constructed bullet that opens up real quick but will get to the the offside hide at least like the ballistic tip does. The reason for the 130 AB in my 264 win mag is the high velocity and the chance of close range shots. Where I found best accuracy with the 120 BT in it was at 3600 fps and I think that bullet would evaporate on the hair inside 200 yards. The 130 AB will not blow up but expands perfectly at those high speeds. I recovered one from a buck shot at 111 yards facing me with a slight left shoulder angel. I placed the bullet on the edge of the left shoulder. It smashed the shoulder plate made soup of the vitals and was found in the right ham when cutting up the meat. The bullet was a text book mushroom and weight was 87 grs.

The AB should work in the 6.5X55 by expanding and holding together and exiting just like it does from the 264 win mag. But personally as I said I like to place a 120 BT going in or angled toward an offside shoulder and they drop in their tracks from the greater trauma.
