Have not posted any targets much lately. Been doing a lot of practicing at 500 yards on steel. This is my newer Howa with 26” heavy barrel, I’ve since retired the 24” heavy barrel Howa to hunting and 120 TTSX load due to high round count on the barrel. This 26” Howa has 307 rounds down the barrel all but 20 are handloads. Peterson SRP brass, 140 Nosler CC bullets, and RL 16 powder. Load has been 41 grains of RL 16 with sub 1/2” groups being the norm. This brass is extremely heavy and much less volume compared to hornady brass. Was still getting random ejector swipe. Yesterday I dropped down to 40.5 grains ( full 2 grains lower than I use in hornady brass) seated .010” off the lands like always. Groups were great although I ended up pulling the last shot in the second group. Seems very consistent. Averaged 2770 fps with SD of 7 and ES of 15. This brass is very consistent for me.

Thanks for the report on the brass. I’ve been using Starline with large primer pockets, and also the 140 CC. I’ve been burning IMR4350 because I can’t find H. I do have a pound of the Re16. Have to give it a try.

Looks as if you have a winning combination on your hands. Excellent riflery.

There is quite a bit of H4350 here locally. I’ve just used so much RL16 the last couple years I can’t find a reason to go back lol. I had great results with IMR 4350 and 120 matchkings a few years ago.

Thanks DrMike! This rifle has exceeded my expectations. Have to say I’ve become a pretty big fan of Howa rifles, the 26” and the 24” have been excellent shooters.

Have not heard of a Howa rifle that would not shoot acceptably well. (Subjective, I know! LOL)
Good bang for the buck!

I’ve only owned two of them, and I’ve been plenty satisfied. They are a very good value also. It’s a heavy action, but seems extremely well built.
