Just purchased some 150gr CT Ballistic Silvertips for my .270 Win. Any sucess/horror stories? Anybody have a load they prefer over others?

The 150 gr CT is a great bullet for the 270 Win. I would look at RL22, start at 52.5 grs MAX is 56.5 grs. Start low and work up.

I've had 150 grain ballistic tips shatter on impact when pushing 3000. Both times the bullet hit just a rib and blew apart and created three exit wounds. If you keep them around 2700 you should be fine. I just like pushing it a little faster.

Take care Aaron

Not mine, but here is a typical horror story.

The CT is basically a BT that is sold to Winchester, they add the lubalx coating and use a Silver Polycarbonate tip, hence the name "Silvertip".
The BT is designed for IMPACT velocities of 3000 fps or less with expansion down to 1600 fps. They are great for deer sized game but are not designed to blow through shoulder bones. The exception is the 30 cal 180 gr and up, they are more robust.

As I have stated in the past, most failures are operator error. Either the wrong bullet is used or shot placement is incorrect. I have killed enough WT deer with the 140 gr BT to know if the deer doesn't drop within 0-4 bounds, it will be operator error. BTW, I have only recovered 1 bullet, every other one, including 2 caribou have had a 50 cent exit wound.

If you want to be a shoulder buster, a better choice isi the AB or PT designs.
