chet,

Looks picture perfect. Give us the details of the hunt.

OK need info. Velocity caliber impact velocity, anatomy of elk struck etc.

Looks good though!

My cousins tag/hunt/elk/rifle..... i was just along for the ride
30-06 federal factory loads, premium 165 gr Nosler BT, no idea of velocity
remington, cheap model (dunno), plain walnut (no-checkering), no floor plate, short barrel (maybe 22"), VXII 3-9. One of the simplest, cheapest set-ups I've seen..... But the damn thing shoots one-hole groups!!!!!

shots were 269 yards, about 45 degrees uphill.... first shot is the bullet you see- broke rib-holed both lungs-broke another rib-and stayed just under the hide. second shot hit farther back and passed through. third shot I told him to get farther right and break her shoulder- It hit a little low and disintegrated her leg bone just above the knee- she slid half way to us and was dead.

Looks like a perfect shot with an excellent bullet. Congratulations to your cousin and thanks for posting.

I was excited when I saw that one of the shots didn't exit!!!! I love finding little treasures!!!! I didn't weigh it but i'd say it kept about 70%

Sure looks like the BT did a good job for you guys! Good shooting and some great eating laying there. I love elk meat!

Cool. I have a lot of respect for B-Tips.

Also have a lot of respect for the hunter, three hits at longish range in tough conditions. Good for him!
