165gr Ballistic tip, 300 win mag

Site is not letting me check my pictures or edit right now. I see the pictures have been viewed.

Not bad for shooting off my small metal folding table and varmiter rifle rest. Not sand bags on stable platform. I was mostly cronographing the load with a secondary look at group consistency. Next time out I will shoot off the sand bags. Velocity was right on nosler data and Quick load. 165gr Ballistic tip 3100fps Ballistic chart is 0-300, -9" 400yrd, -25" 500yrds, -48" 600yrds. MPBR 350yrds. I will also shoot it in my compact 300 at that time. It will probably use the 3000fps chart if it groups well.

I get kicked off every time and need to log back in as well. I thought it was the Canadians who were attacking Nosler but I guess it's something else!

Hey, you mean my mental telepathy is working?

Apparently all of the spoon benders from the 60's ended up in Canada! Ha.

I don't eat porridge anymore since I can't find a spoon that isn't bent. Now it is getting hard to cut a steak as the steak knives are circular. It lends a whole new meaning to "medallions."

I have the next accuracy test loads sitting on the bench. If I get a calm wind day, I'll shoot at 300yrds to see if it holds sub 3"

Hit the 200yrd range again, off sand bags. 20" compact shot terrible. Lost its zero and was shooting 8" left. Might be time for a new scope. 7lb 300win mag is hard on scopes. Ruger shot the same

I first ran the 165 Ballistic Tip and a .300 Win mag (a tang-safety Ruger 77) back in the 1980's when the Ballistic Tips were first introduced. Also loaded them for a buddy who had a beautiful Win Model 70, in the mid 1990's.

Whiz-bang combo for deer!

Those original Ballistic Tips were a little fragile for the 3100 - 3200 fps mv, but very accurate. GREAT at longer ranges, devastating at closer ranges. We saw some pretty ugly results, albeit fatal, because the bullets expanded too rapidly on contact. Today's Ballistic Tip bullets have a heavier base & jacket and should perform better. In recent years I've been very impressed with them from the .30-06 and .308 Win. Haven't pushed them nearly as hard as I did back 20 years ago with the .300 Win mag.
I killed a buck at 30 YDS. quartering towards me w/ a 150 tip in the .300WM. It exited near the last couple of ribs on the far side. surprising tough at the 3,200 muz vel!
And yes, 7828 works wonderfully with the .300 Win mag. I saw very impressive results with the big 200 grain bullets and 7828.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, I haven't owned a .300 Win mag in quite a few years now. Good cartridge!

Guy

I think this matches the Nosler 300yrd sight in pretty well. + 3.3" at 100yrds, + 4" at 200yrds, 0 300yrds.

Save me a spoon, Dr. Mike!
I have some oatmeal I need to eat. Bloody Canadian spoon benders. Geez! It's getting so a guy can't even eat his meal that taste like someone ate it before in peace. [emoji1]
