I have a few boxes, and decided to load some up in my RUM. Has anyone used them and how did they perform? My initial loads started at 98grs of Retumbo and worked up to 102grs.

Retumbo and the 168 TTSX has been my go to load for the last several years. I’ve been running the 168gt TTSX @ 3340fps. This load has accounted for 4 moose, three caribou, 4 black bears without a hitch. Including a 519 yard shot on a large caribou bull last fall. I have yet to find an animal that could stop it including shooting a bull moose texas heart style that penetrated 5+ feet of moose with obvious expansion. I really don’t think it can be beat for the 300 RUM.

Sounds like a great load in your 300 RUM.
5 feet of moose is some serious penetration.

I handload for my buddy George (another Greek George in Cheyenne...sheesh!).
He shoots a Sako 75 (use to be mine) SS Synthetic in 300 RUM. I loaded this bullet for him with 99 gr retumbo for just over 3300 fps and 1/2" MOA. He had taken elk deer and antelope from 20 yards to over 400 with no issues. Internal damage has been great and never recovered one slug. This is the 168 gr TTSX.

Can't ask for any better performance. What OAL and charge weight do you use? I started at 3.600"

I loaded some of the 168 TTSX for my brother in law for his 300 WSM. A couple of years ago I called in a large bull elk for him. He took a straight on frontal shot at 42 yards. The bull spun and ran about 20 yards and piled up. Upon examination we knew the bullet was inside the animal. The bullet took out the heart and penetrated all the way into the stomach. We recovered the bullet while gutting the bull. I also have a load for this bullet for use in my RUM but have not used it on any animal yet. I will ad they are accurate in both rifles.

Sounds like a serious bullet for the big 300's. That is a lot of performance.

The monolithic bullets have been a game changer in fast cartridges. The concept of using lighter bullets in order to increase velocities while maintaining integrity on impact has become a reality with these bullets. Yes, the 168 grain TTSX (and the 168 grain E-Tip) will ensure deep penetration with higher impact energies.

I agree totally, they are an excellent choice in rounds that drive bullets at warp speed. In fact there probably isn't much need to go over 168 gr in weight even in a something like a 300 RUM.

That load will shoot pretty flat too at over 3300 fps ! I might have to load some of those in my 300 WBee and give them a whirl ! :) RJ

Going to try some RL25 as well. Hopefully will get out to the range tomorrow and see how they perform.
