I recently stumbled across this cartridge. Have any of you tried it out yet. Seems it might be a great choice for night hunting predators in Michigan, where rimfire or shotgun is the only option after dark.

It's a pretty potent rimfire. It'll push a .17 20gr bullet to 3000fps - that's 500fps faster than the HMR. I looked at it for sage rats but ammo availability is tough. If I were limited to a rimfire for night work it'd be that or a .22mag/17HMR. I did pick up a 17 Hornet(centerfire) last year and it's my favorite rat rifle. It pushes the same bullet to 3500fps. I can head shoot'em out to 200yds and body hits are easy out to 300yds. No recoil so you keep target acquired all the time and call your own shots(watch the fireworks as well). I can also reload the brass for cheaper than I can buy 17HMR.

A good friend of mine bought one last year and is tremendously pleased with the accuracy. I saw the targets and it is definitely impressive. As far as I know, he hasn't had the chance to ventilate anything breathing with it yet, though.

However, as Scott mentioned, ammo is not readily found and pricey when it is.

I actually found about 10 boxes on the shelf at a local shop recently. They were 25 grain sbt winhesters adverised for 2660 fps which peaked my interest in this cartridge. They cost $20 per box of 50.

I think its an impressive round and it would be ideal here in MI for night time hunting.

Friend of mine has 1 in a Savage and his likes the 20 gr rounds and the varmints can't stand them along with his 204 Ruger !
