I bought some 180 gr. Nosler AccuBond spitzers to reload for my .300wsm
I noticed that they were a little longer than what I normally reload. The bullet when seated is past the shoulder and into the caseing.I reloaded with 65.5 gr. of IMR 4831 and it seemed to push the powder a bit I could hear it crunch some.My overall cartridge length is 2.823
I was wondering if these would be safe to shoot or should I reduce the powder. Are these bullets too long for the short mags? Any help would be greatly appriciated. The book calls for 67.5 gr. of IMR 4831 as max.
Thanks,
Elkshed

First, any time you change a component you must back off the powder charge a bit and work back up. That said 65.5gr of IMR 4831/ 180 Nosler is 2 1/2 gr under max as per Nosler.

What you are experiencing is called a "compressed load". It is perfectly safe to compress loads. Many reloaders, myself included desire compressed loads. Nothing to worry about unless ther are signs of over pressure.

Taking Steve's advise into consideration...you should be fine with compressed loads.

I once compressed 133 gr of H870 in a 378 WBY under a 300 gr bullet.

Talk about killing on both ends  Man i would have hated to be on the recieving end of that one! Come to think of it, i would have also hated to be the one pulling the trigger, man that had to pack a punch and my old broke down shoulders couldn't take it.

Not really that bad. But then again I did have a KDF muzzle brake on it...just like my 416 Bee.

Thet are alot of hidden space in the 300 WSM case.......my 300 WSM performs best with high % loads.......That is why I use MAGPRO.

IMR 4831 with 165 TSX @ 69.5 is a excellent load also.
