The workday officially ends at 6:00 PM CST.
Tomorrow at 7:00 AM we'll be loaded up and headed to the lease in Mo for the deer opener
on Saturday morning.
The 264 is packed. The 7 STW is packed. The 280 and an 06 making the trip as well.
And, just for good measure I threw the Tikka 223 in a case. We have an overabundance of yotes on the lease and if the deer co-operate I plan on thinning them out a bit while I'm there.
Counted 13 dogs on opening morning last year in four hours on stand.

Creedmore is coming up as a guest a week from today.
He's got a newly built 700 280AI spitting out 140 ABs that he needs to draw blood with.

9 days straight. Don't have to worry about anything except freezing my arse off.
Yeah I know, it's November. But it's 75 here now and not supposed to get out of the 50s there next week.

See you guys in a week or so.
Be safe, have fun, shoot straight.
And if you get a chance; take a kid hunting.

Howard

Good luck Howard
I hope you fill your tags and shoot a few song dogs.

HT, I just got back from the range finalizing my rifle zero's for the opener Saturday. The Tikka 270 WSM, Browning 7WSM, and Remington 35 Whelen get the nod for starters.

The latest forecast is for temps in the 70's then rain on Sunday and colder next week but nothing horrendous temperature-wise.

As I said on another post, I'm worried about this season due to the drought induced "blue tongue" disease. Depending on where your lease is located may determine how much the disease affected the deer in that particular area. In my area it's pretty bad but not as bad north of here.
Pre6422Hornet lives in the KC area and said the deer population there hasn't shown much effect at all.

Good luck this weekend!!

Ron

Howard,

We're all pulling for you. I do hope you fill all your tags and enjoy thinning a number of yotes as well. You might want to toss in a couple more rifles.

Ron our lease is just north of Nevada. Still have lots of deer.
Our biggest problem are poachers and arsonists.
Alot of our lease is CRP fields and every year someone lights at least one of them on fire.

And as for the weather? I work outside in the heat all year.
I'm 5"11" and weigh 170. I am not built to retaing heat, rather shed it instead.
50 degrees I can handle, it's the mornings where it's 20-30 that get me

And Dr Mike, I just got a phone call. One of my lease mates just moved and the movers
put all his ammo in storage. I spent a day or two working up a load for his 270.
I now get to haul components and dies up there too
(can't get enough reloading anyway)

Yeah, its always handy to have your gear with you. You can never tell when someone is going to have need for ammunition. Good show, Howard.

Good luck, looking forward to hearing all the details and seeing pictures of the hunt.
