200gr .308 E-Tip?

A solid copper 200 grain bullet would be great for penetration and terminal performance but might not have the best Ballistic Coefficient.

It would be getting to the point that the bullet would have to be less streamlined in order to keep the length short enough to stabilize in a 1:10 twist barrel. In fact when you compare the Form Factor of the 168 grain Etip to the 180. The 168 grain E-Tips form factor is actually aerodynamically the better of the two.

I would think the larger bearing surface might cause pressure problems also and muzzle velocity might suffer.

Also, it would have to be a flat base instead of a boattail. I think the TSX 30cal 200gn is a flat base, I could be wrong though.

The E-Tips are very long so stabilization becomes an issue. I don't think we will see a 308 200 gr E-Tip anytime soon.
My experience is only limited to 7mm 150 gr and 338 200 gr E-Tips but results were impressive. Excellent accuracy, deep penetration with a high weight retention make them an excellent bullet.
The 180 gr E-Tip is a good one and I don't think it will disappoint you.

The 200gr TSX is a flat based bullet.

I'll add to the thoughts here only that when you're dealing with monolithic bullets like these, you can take a step down in bullet weight without losing the ability to take game with authority, since you'll have 95-100% weight retention in most cases. Think of it this way - what the 180gr Partition will do on elk from a 30-06, the 150gr or 168gr E-Tip will do, and then some, most likely. So, unless you're trying to stretch a 300mag into a 338mag, the 200gr is a bit over the top. Think also about the reduction in velocity due to the increased bearing surface, and you begin to realize the 180gr is really a charmer in the biggest 300mags. At least that's my opinion.

That would be one long bullet. At magazine length, it would just about touch the back of an .06 case, and then leave nice sideways holes in the paper.

Yeah, it would be a beast of a bullet :)

Will stick with the 180gr then
