I am considering buying a new Rifle, a Remington Model 700 Stainless-Synthetic SPS in .223 Remington. The Remington web site shows this rifle as having a 1 in 12" Rifling Twist.

I am curious as to how every one's experience has been with 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips in a .223 with a 1 in 12" Rifling Twist? The reason I ask is that when I measured 10 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips the average Bullet Length was .808". According to the Greenhill Formula Twist Rate Calculator on the net a bullet with this length should have a 1 in 11" Rifling Twist Rate.

The reason am asking is I have about 900 rounds of .223 Ammo loaded with 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips and am anxious as to if I am going to be able to use this ammo in the new Rifle I am considering buying.

Thanks

Larry

I have an ADL that shoots the 55 gr BT's into little bugholes (5 shot groups) with H 4895 just fine. Does well with the 60 gr Sierras too.

My Kimber Model 82 has 12 twist barrel and love the 55 Nosler BT. I believe, so is the Remington.

The 1:12 twist should be fine for the 55 gr BT. If your rifle doesn't like them, try the 50 gr BT.
I use the 50 gr BT in a 22-250 with a 1:14 twist with good accuracy and their performance on coyotes is excellent.

I use the 55gr BT's in a .22/250 with a 22" barrel with a 1-14 twist without a problem at all. In fact I pretty much load nothing else than the 55gr BT's as they seem to be the most accurate projectile I have tried (yes I've tried lots!) and shoot groups of .5-.6" at 100 yards every time. So definitely give the 55gr BT's a go.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did not end up getting the different .223, but rather picked up a 15" SST T/C Encore Handgun in .243 Winchester.

Thanks again.
