22 Nosler reloading question

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I’m confused.

I just loaded some 55gr e-tips over 28.6-29.4 grains of Varget. I used the COAL stated in the load data at 2.210”. Out of curiousity I measured the factory loading and it sits at 2.240”.

why the difference between reload data and factory?

the factory ammo shoots lights out from my WhiteOak 18” barrel. Should I just duplicate the factory COAL?

thanks in advance

welcome to the forum . good first question .

is the factory ammo loaded with the exact same bullet ? if it is using the exact same bullet , yes you could use that length for your reloaded ammo . if it's a different bullet , I'd shoot the ones you have loaded to see how well they shoot . your ammo is 0.030 shorter than factory loads . the E-tip is an all copper bullet , they usually like a longer jump than a lead core bullet .

Thank you for the reply. It’s the same bullet which is what threw me off a bit.
I’ll load both and see how they fly. I’ll let ya know my results

again, thank you

I'll be interested in seeing your results . maybe your ammo will be better than factory ! glad I could help .

It’s smart to shoot what you have loaded to see how they perform. How’s the accuracy with your current load?

I have a 22 Nosler in an AR platform. I load to factory COL and it shoots well out to 400 yards.
You could try a few at your loaded COL to compare to what the factory COL is and make a decision from there.
