I just got a Sako L46 from my father in law. I am going to load up the 40 bt. What powder should a start with. What is a good all around powder for this cartridge? Thanks

No first hand experience with the 222 Rem, I would look at AA2015, RL7, or H335.

JD338

Does anyone have any info on RL7 and the .222 rem I am using the nosler BT 50gr. My nosler book only has the 40grain. Thanks also I have some W 748 powder which is a better powder for the .222 rem. Thanks so much for any help. This will be my first attempt at the .222 rem. Need a starting point and a Max would be nice

H-335 or BLC-2 for your 222. That's the powder I use on my 222 Remington Magnum load.

I bought a pound of RL 7 to try in my .222 Rem with the Nosler 50gr BT's Any thoughts of a load would be appreciated having a hard time finding any. This powder was recomended to me now. Will try some of the others if I don't like this one.

Thanks you have the data for the 40gr as does my nosler book. But what do I do for the 50GR The pressures will be higher correct? I am assuming the powder charges will have to be decreased but how much?

I missed that you were looking for the 50 grain. Give me a little time and we'll make up for that mistake by posting the load data, it should be up sometime today.

Thanks! I will be waiting for the info on the 50gr .222 rem data I appreciate your help.

IMR-4198 is one of the old standby's if I remember correctly for the .222 Rem. I have looked no further with 40-52g bullets. Accuracy is superb, under .5" for a factory sporter, and velocity is up there on top as well. Only other powder I"ve put down my barrel is IMR-4895 for the 55g NBT's I'm using now. 3150fps and under .5" MOA is not to shabby for the old triple deuce!!

Well I got out and shot my first set of loads the best with the RL 7 was 20.5gr with the wsr pimer and the nosler 50 bt's The best I did was about 2" groupings at 100 yards. Not too impressed. I did as good with my Marlin lever in .30-30. Accurate enough to take out a Coyote but not as good as I was hoping. So if I changed to one of the other powders do you think it would get better? Thanks
