Hi guys,
I kept saying I was going to buy one for the last 22 years and I finally did it. I bought a 222 browning A bolt varminter in the camo pattern. I have zero experience on this round. I have a 22-250, 223 wssm and a 243 for varmints but always wanted the triple deuce. I have plenty of 40 and 50 bt's but would like a load or a starting point. One gun dealer I talked to said any powder will work fine. RL7, 4198, H335, H332 and TAC. Any suggestions? I just don't want to buy a massive amount of powder to see what shoots the best. 2-3 types of powder should be fine.

Thanks Aaron

I seem to remember using H322 when I loaded some for my buddy's .222.

Anything that works for 223 will work with 222. I use H 335 with 40 grain V-Max on my 222 Remington Magnum.

I"ve always used IMR-4198. Its always shot really really good from my 700 triple deuce.

Was thinking of trying a ball powder though, just haven't figured out which one I'd want to try...

If it were me, I'd try H322, W748, H4895 with a 50 Btip but if still not happy, try Varget, H335, I4198 but I think they work best with 55's. JMO.

I too will get a 222 some day my research found H322 and H4198 to be the Bench rest choices of old. Tac should be good too. I am thinking H322 and strikly accuracy with either a 50or 52 gr bullet 3000-3100fps would be fine for me. Also I see you can get LAPUA brass in 222 from Sincler again.

To change the subject I have a CZ527 in 22-Hornet a steel I couldn't pass up $400 NIB. But if I want to rechamber it to 222rem Can I get and do I need a new bolt for the 222. CZ sells magazines so thats set.

When the weather gets better I will work on hornet loads but its still an oppion I might consider.

Thanks for the replys, I did run to sportsmans and they were all out of brass and powder they only had H4198 so I bought it. Called around to a couple of reloading stores and no brass and bullets. although I still have 40 and 50bts but not in big quantity. I will have to run to cabela's after the ice storm.

thanks Aaron

If you like reloading get real familar with Sinclair their a mail order frim and have some great stuff. Sinclair and Midway USA are my go to stores for reloading the have the best deals and stock and between tools, bulk bullets, and nosler ammo some of you can't get anywhere else.

Powder and primers I just get localy at GANDER, JAYS, or local gun stores.

tjen, You wont need a new bolt for your CZ but you will need a 222 rem magazine as they are cartridge specific for the mini mauser design. Do you have any interest in selling or trading that Hornet as is?

I haven't had much of a chance to work up loads for it yet. I settled on the 40gr sierra's hornet bullet at an OAL of 1.725 for a load the magizine will except. And I have both the 40gr B-tip and Berger HPV for single feed rounds with the bullets or OAL out where ever this gun likes them. I have the Calhoon carrier, rings, and bolt with a VXII 3-9 EFR so if I can get an accurate load with the sleek 40gr bullets at say 2800-2900fps it should do in the bobcats and coyotes form 30-150 yards. AA1680 and Lilgun are what I have to try. I am waiting for spring lots of snow an below freezing today.

If you have any tried and ture hornet loads using 40gr bullets let me know. I have a case of federal 205 primers and rem brass, but win brass is easy to get.
