Hello, i am reloading for 2 brothers that shoot ar's and wondered about some recipes for them. One is a 24" varmint shooter and the other is a 16" paper shooter. I would like to use 55 grain bullets. Thanks

26.5gr Varget with a 60gr V-max
25gr H335 with a 55gr v-max
25gr of H322 with a 50gr V-max is a great load for varmints and has been very accurate in my AR's
All loads are seated 2.250 oal

25grs to 26grs of AR2206H (H4895) seems to be the load with most 223s. Bullets in the 50gns to 55gns. I use Ballistic Tips or shots

55gr Sierra BTSP's and Nosler 55gr NBT's. I have some Hornady V-Max I picked up for a good price but I have not fired any yet.

Really like the hornady and nosler. Would prefer hodgdon powder but will use what works. Thanks for all the advice guys, that is why i love this forum.

55 gr BT, 24.9 grains IMR 8208 and 205M primer. Somewhere north of 3100 fps if I remember correctly and insanely accurate.

Plinking with my M4gery I load 26 grs BLC-2 and a 55 gr FMJBT.
It meters very well

I shoot three different .223's. 16" M&P, 20" Heavy Rock River Arms, and 26" heavy Howa bolt. Have found outstanding accuracy and velocity. All rifle will shoot under .5 Inch at 100 yards. Bullets used are 40 grain Ballistic Tip, 50 grain Ballistic Tip, 52 grain Custom Competition HPBT,
55 grain Ballistic Tip, and 60 grain Partition.

Hodgdon's Benchmark is easy to load and burns the cleanest of all other powders and consistently yields higher velocity. I don't shoot many 55's since I have a gobs of 40's, 50's and 52's. The 52's with 26.0 grains of Benchmark, GM205M primers and seated at 2.30" will shoot one hole all day long moving along at 3400 FPS in the bolt action. The 23.0" length is too long for AR magazines.

The 50 grain with 26.0 Benchmark shot a .010" group.

Thanks 52 gr would probably work. I can see i will have to load several different loads and try them but that is why we reload.
